From the article:

"An attack ad created by Republican Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign featuring the mother of Democratic candidate for Ohio governor, Dr. Amy Acton, accuses her of lying about her upbringing and her opponent."

[...]

"Acton confirmed the woman in the video is her mother, Donna Arthur, and said her mother is the one who is lying. Acton blamed Ramaswamy for the ad."

This ad is so gross that even some Republicans are criticizing it. Not nearly enough, but the fact that they are saying anything at all is telling.

Vance, of course, supports it.

Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Household Pulse Survey collected between 2021 and 2024, HRC estimates that 12% of U.S. adults – roughly 25.6 million people – identify as LGBTQ+.

A 2023 report from the Williams Institute – a research center on sexual orientation and gender identity law and public policy – estimated that there were 557,600 LGBTQ+ adults in Ohio, 6.2% of the state’s population. That’s over 325,000 less LGBTQ+ adults than HRC estimated.

“Fran and I are thankful Dr. Amy Acton was not hurt, and we send our thoughts to those who were injured. We spoke to Dr. Acton this afternoon and she said to share with Ohioans that she is ok," said DeWine in his statement. “We are grateful for the quick work of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and other law enforcement on the scene at the Canfield Fair today when a man tried to forcefully push himself toward Dr. Acton as she was speaking and injured other attendees at the Mahoning County Democrat booth."

Even with Musk’s hefty contribution, he’s only tied for third among V-PAC’s largest donors.

Philadelphia-area billionaire and Republican megadonor Jeff Yass has contributed a total of $20 million. New York-based financier Ross Stevens has given $6 million and Connecticut software entrepreneur Ratmir Timashev – who’s aiming to bring 100 AI startups to Columbus – has given $5 million.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) has argued the company’s decision to sue a local business operator in Beavercreek, Ohio, for alleged trademark infringement was “ridiculous.”

The lawsuit comes after Buc-ee’s decided to open a new location in Huber Heights, Ohio, 16 miles from Beaver’s Mini Mart.

“To see this, that they’re coming after a small business like this, it upset me like it did a lot of Beavercreek residents,” resident Sam Bryan told Nexstar’s WDTN.

Dayton workers have placed bags over the city’s Flock cameras.

This follows the city’s suspension of use of its Flock cameras — a type of automatic license plate reader that generates data that can be accessed by departments all over the country — after realizing its data was being scanned for immigration reasons, in violation of city policy. A Dayton Daily News investigation found other area police departments allow their data to be accessed for immigration purposes.

Trump’s war in Iran, gas prices and corruption dominate messaging as special election nears to fill Senate seat

It’s tough to beat the prices at Golden Dawn, an Italian restaurant that first opened its doors in 1932 on the north side of Youngstown, Ohio, and where a hamburger and fries today goes for $7 and a domestic beer just $2 at happy hour.

But the price that’s most discussed these days around its neon-lit, crescent-shaped bar is the $5 a gallon that gas prices are nearing at stations across this north-eastern Ohio city that is one of the state’s most prominent victims of manufacturing disinvestment. Where people differ is about what caused it, and who should take the blame.

“It’s because of that damn war” with Iran, said Tom Goodman, a 47-year-old who works odd jobs around town. An independent, he was never a fan of the president, but now thinks even less of him. “Trump can go ride back into the sunset on whatever white horse he rode in on because he didn’t help the country,” he said.

The filing confirms what Conn-Selmer had announced as a tentative plan in January. At that time, the company said it intended to transfer professional French horn production to its brass factory in Elkhart, Indiana, while moving production of tubas, sousaphones, and student and intermediate French horns offshore. Conn-Selmer describes itself as the largest manufacturer of band and orchestra instruments in the United States, with brands including Bach, Conn, King, Holton, Leblanc, Ludwig, and Selmer.

An Ohio man pleaded guilty on Tuesday to cybercrimes involving real and AI-generated “sexually explicit images”, becoming what the Department of Justice claims is the first person convicted under a new federal AI statute.

The law prohibits anyone from “knowingly” publishing or threatening to publish intimate images, including AI-made “deepfake” images, without consent. Social media companies and websites must remove violating content within 48 hours following a victim’s request.

The effort to ban large-scale data centers in Ohio is one step closer to getting on the ballot. On Wednesday, the Ohio Ballot Board unanimously approved a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would prohibit the construction of any data center using more than 24 megawatts a month — about 28 houses worth of power.

With the Ballot Board’s approval, organizers must get more than 400,000 signatures before July 1 in order to put the amendment on the November ballot.
