It's terrible, also worse as "mark read" moved under options. On android firefox it's unusable literally - you can't see what you typing. Searching for instance who do not accept this thing ever.

Not 100%, if people's own self reports are to be believed (on Reddit, Bluesky, X, etc.). For example this post made a couple years after the Rexodus: https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditAlternatives/comments/1jqvq6k/looking_for_reddit_alts_that_are_not_lemmy/.
Also, I found this older post and its comments quite interesting: https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditAlternatives/comments/170ie8t/regarding_the_recent_complaints_about_lemmy_being/.
Yeah but I think the fact that it's for geeks is literally its strongest selling point.
People love toxic and ragebaiting shit. Facebook, Reddit, Xitter all push it to the forefront and their users eat that right up. It may annoy them and destroy their mental health but arguing over the internet with strangers have always been addictive.
It was 100% due to to the lack of content and communities, but more importantly because people in general don't care about the concept of federation and don't want to learn about it, and will actively resist any attempts to "educate" them about it. Threadiverse is for geeks and will never be as popular as traditional corporate social media. Just like GNU/Linux will never be a dominant OS, no matter how good it is.
Conversely, see Paradox of Intolerance. By NOT separating toxic instances from the rest by default, the Threadiverse has probably passed by its best chances to grow, as Reddit fell but people refused to come here. Tbf, that was mostly due to the lack of content / network effect, as mentioned in the blog, but also the part that we could have done more to stop was to allow toxic people to bully others without doing anything to stop it. At which point the main choice left is to simply not stay here and put up with it.
Things are better now than they were, and will get better still when Lemmy updates to v1.0 and thereby finally allows moderator reports to federate, plus as Piefed continues to grow (and ofc Mbin + 3rd party apps for all 3 platforms, plus other new ones like nodeBB as they add ActivityPub Protocol support). But the BEST chances were behind us.
Great update. Those collections will be very useful, especially once they are a bit more discoverable.
Just realized, maybe I should link it. lol After my rambling post. https://tubefree.org/w/hbodNSptVE541KGZ7mVJrX
More of a VODCast? It's me installing his software. Hoping to work with Maho this Sunday with FediProfile. :D
So I don't know how it'd be listening to me read some docs and install the software and talk about it. But I'd love to know if it works as an audio podcast as well. :D I mean, people love ASMR, so maybe this is nerd ASMR? :D LOL
Also, thank you all so much for your work. This is INCREDIBLE. All of this. I'm so honored to be along for the ride. I've been thinking about FASPs and the potential is massive. Far more than just attempting to lower the cost for server admins, deduplication, whatevver you want to call it.
Private messaging, sharing content, subscription access to premium content. The FASP could be the underpinnings of entirely new systems of data sharing that literally isn't possible on the modern web.
So seriously. This is incredible. Thank you ALL. Everyone at Mastodon, but everyone not at Mastodon as well.
This goes to anyone else reading this as well. Thank you to ALL OF YOU. You're here. That's why these developers are building this. We're all chipping away at the shackles. We're going to break free. And I'm so humbled to be a part of this with all of you. Thank you all!
wait, another podcast with you and Floppy? Why is this not in my ears already? downloading!
This is excellent news. And I'm very excited about FASPs. I just spoke to James Smith on Sunday on my podcast, Works On My Machine Live, about his 3D printing Fediverse project Manyfold and he's working on supporting FASPs. I didn't understand them at first, but James explained it so easily. Such incredible work happening everywhere!
Very hyped for the "check profile without boosts"-option, this has been annoying every now and then. The automatic filter for pinned hashtags seems very nice as well. Overall solid I think!
Thanks so much. Those bots might be what I'll use for public service accounts.
If you don't have ownership of an account then no, you can't setup Bridgy. But if they have a website that does like blog post kind of stuff, Bridgy may be able to do that.
https://fed.brid.gy/docs#web-get-started
there's also bots available to mirroring twitter or RSS to Mastodon
Good to know, thank you. I take it it's not easy/possible to bridge an account I don't have ownership of? I'd like to "mirror" some public figures who aren't on Mastodon, too (although I should lobby them to join Mastodon).
awesome!
edit: I forgot to mention that Fedi users can setup Bridgy as well, so that they're interactions make it back to the Bluesky account, too.
Update: they've agreed to do that, thanks again!
Actually, that could work. I’ll do that. Thank you for the suggestion!
Right. I meant you should DM the account on Bluesky and ask them to setup up Bridgy themselves. Then you, or anyone really, can follow the bridged account on Mastodon and boost it like any other.
Thanks. This seems to do something different. It's asking me for my Mastodon account and to create a handle on Bluesky. I want to represent a Bluesky account on Mastodon so other people can follow it and see the same posts/comments made on Bluesky. I
ask it to setup Bridgy.
I'm sorry, are you talking about pawb.social? That's the Lemmy instance I'm on and I've never heard anything particularly bad so please show me what I'm missing. Of it's my Mastodon, I'm on bark.lgbt over there, which has no bad history from what I know.
Some servers have their list of moderated servers made public, visible on the about page, might be worth checking some around
Thanks so much, that worked and is the only thing that worked. I appreciate your help!
