Also nvim-treesitter. Some entitled fuck told the based maintainer that he should support older versions of neovim because that fuck doesn't use version 9+. Guess what, the maintainer archived the repo, as he should after having to deal with all these people.

Based as hell. And fuck FOSStards

Yea I just created lemmy.world account though I'd moved beyond the Linux thing (I followed other topic like environmentalism, geography, nature, wildlife, vegetarianism, lifestyle, minimalism, sustainability, buddhism). Linux is even more glazed here than on Reddit is.

Loonix is actually terrible at shutting down because something will always break while you try to do so.

I'll give you piracy because fosstards love to pirate things.

And Loonix is not good at opening terminal emulators. Windows may have few, but the ones it does have are easy to open a GOATed.

I usually try to stay away from FOSStard slop like Loonix. Windows is far better because it has an actual company backing it and improving it, whereas Loonix powered by copium and skill issue.

Oh man I used Linux mint back around 2007- 2009 or so for a few years. It was honestly the best distro because it just worked and had all the tools etc. Super easy coming from windows too, and the alternative at the time was vista 😂. When win7 came out I stayed on that till win 10. Now back on Linux because honestly windows sucks now haha.

I have to assume this is a joke. Right? It is a joke, isn't it?

In case it isn't: All FOSS software is insulated from abandonment, because it is open source. If the original developer steps away from the project, the community can pick up right where they left off. Contrast that with proprietary software, which regularly leaves its users completely stranded with absolutely no recourse. This has happened so often that there's an entire website cataloguing all the times Google alone has done it.

I see. In that case you need to unplug your computer IMMEDIATELY. Heck, maybe leave the internet entirely.

William Shockley, one of the co-inventors of the transistor was what you'd call "a huge stinky racist". He promoted racial eugenics and advocated for the sterilization of black women. Are you endorsing eugenics every second that you use a phone or a computer?

Now you could of course say "that person is dead now, so it doesn't matter". So I'll give you more recent examples.

Brendan Eich, the creator of JavaScript and co-founder of Mozilla, supported California’s Proposition 8, the measure banning same-sex marriage. If you use Mozilla, and/or are browsing the web with JavaScript on, you're endorsing homophobia, because using JS directly contributes to its popularity.

Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Uber and Spotify donated to Trump’s 2025 inauguration. Apple also bent the knee. If you use any of their products, or products they have control over (Like Youtube, Google Search, Android, iOS, etc), you're basically cheering for Trump.

Linux itself also dominates the server market. So it's heavily used and contributed to by massive corporations that support the US administration, and its fascist policies. Same goes for AMD, Intel and Nvidia yet you probably own their hardware. Do you support shooting and deporting people? Your logic says yes, my common sense says no.

Hope you also do not use any GNU software, because I have terrible news for you.

I can understand the "I don't want this person benefiting from my money, so I'll boycott them" angle, it's perfectly reasonable, but "Everyone who doesn’t join my boycott endorses their politics" is straight up insanity.

TL;DR: If "benefit" means money, Omarchy users don’t pay him. If "benefit" means popularity, then using any living maintainer’s FOSS is an endorsement. Pick one definition and use it on Google, Mozilla, Linux, GNU, and your own daily driver. You obviously won't because this isn't a principle, it's all performative outrage.

Edit: Forgot to throw this last one in - If you're in the US, your tax money goes straight into munitions that are headed for Palestine. Hope you're not paying your taxes, have ripped up your ID and gave up your citizenship

I’m already not switching. That doesn’t mean I can’t explain why. And you’re free to think that’s a pointless hobby. After all, getting into an argument about whether I’m here to argue would be a bit much, even for me lol.

    Except I didn’t say that.

My argument was that using someone’s software doesn’t automatically mean endorsing their politics. “Boycott everything he touches or you support Nazism” is the false choice I’m objecting to, not rejecting Nazis.

Going back to my previous comment though, what specifically makes him a Nazi rather than a chud parroting far-right talking points? I’m not saying he definitely isn’t one. I’m asking what evidence supports that specific label.

Ignore the downvotes on this post OP. Every downvote comes from some emotional person or bot. I think the "linux desktop year" can happen but this does put a damper into that overall goal.

Why does Omarchy need to be “squelched at all costs”? What concrete harm would the distro hypothetically succeeding actually cause? I am asking genuinely.

I’ve read those two articles of his, about london and gypsies, and I think plenty of his views are ignorant and/or far-right. But accuracy matters: on that stopomarchy website, it says "wrote another comparing Roma people to wolves to be shot and deported". That passage says shoot wolves and deport Roma people, not shoot Roma people. The analogy is dehumanizing enough to criticize without implying he said something he didn’t.

More importantly, using someone’s software isn’t a blanket endorsement of their politics. “Reject everything he touches or support a Nazi” is a false choice, not a genuine argument.

Maybe he did specifically say he supports the nazis and their politics, but I didn't see anything resembling that on the website that advocates for his takedown. Nor did I care to look more into it, since after all, I'm done using any linux distro on the desktop.

Oh but I can't. You can't escape the linux hivemind anywhere you go. If you post a problem you're having with Windows and asking for help, there's always a helpful individual telling you that you're "literally selling your soul to Microslop" and should switch to Linux ASAP.

So what I'm doing with my posts is documenting why one should not in fact switch to linux.

Hi @madthumbs@lemmy.world, this is my first comment on this community and my first comment on lemmy.world as a whole. I join lemmy because you want us to stop using Reddit so I try it. I hope you're doing well after a tornado hit your village. Also what email provider are you using and what's your alternatives to Gmail?
