Ugg it’s obvious that conversation on this platform has no merit when people can downvote you without reason and total anonymity. It creates the perfect environment for theories of a meddling of 50c army or similar, with no meaningful inclusion.

Mods are doing too little against this cult like behaviour.

I personally have found it to be dangerous to talk about socialism without knowing if the person is a staunch ML or can converse about their critics.

Like wise if the ownership of the socialism definition and revisionism like Democratic Socialism, Anarchic Socialism is associated or excluded.

Stepping into socialist theory it seemed like Manifesto of the Communist Party was the one and only way, joining lemmy.ml seemed to reaffirm that but then one listens to Socialists from a different media thier ideas are far less strict. I’m assuming they’ve read other books and pamphlets by other people.

You don't have to reference anyone to discuss Socialism. Frankly I think it's a little masturbatory to mention the big names except when discussing them specifically.

I don't get it, in particular how are you being asked to choose between those things? Try to get as many people to show up as possible, including the disabled, and to me it's like "in my wildest dreams I get to solve this problem, we have too many people!" Just make sure attendees know that they might be asked to stand or accommodate others if it's crowded. Many hands make light work, yeah? You can all solve it together.

I live in this area! Though I haven't been here long so I don't have a detailed view of everything. Another company SSAB is currently building.... A steel plant. It seems like Sweden has been putting a lot of effort into getting people to live in the north. Some areas even pay you to live there (iirc Boden is or was doing that for students recently). I'm here for game dev but our school is getting shut down because the decade or so long push to get the game industry to blossom up here has more or less failed.

I don’t mean to make light of the situation, it’s a serious problem and one that affects many people throughout the world.

As someone who grew up in West Virginia I have to say:

So you know how the Israelites wandered in the desert for 80 years? It sure as hell wasn't because Moses couldn't find the holy land. it had more to do with that whole "Holy Cow" mentality.

Seeing Franz Fanon references in the wild is pretty rare. He was a french-algerian psychiatrist and analysed the effects of Colonialism on participants from both sides of it.

To be fair, consumption in the global north will radically change as we transition to socialism. So much of modern global north consumption depends on imperialism and neocolonialism, and getting rid of those means we need to re-industrialize and essentially pay global reparations, to help develop the world more equitably. Initially, this might manifest in better social safety nets but fewer consumerist treats.

That’s equally inspiring and infuriating, given the amount of fossil fuels that we use.

I do really hope someone sees my comment and remembers the source/knows what to search for, because I wonder if it was calculated before the explosion of rooftop solar/advances in battery technology or if it’s generally leaning towards fear mongering. Or maybe it was just being pessimistic about the likelihood of political will required for carbon free energy everywhere.

Can we produce carbon free energy everywhere/easily transport it anywhere?

Pretty much. The exact mix of solar, wind, geothermal and hydro varies, but some combination will typically get the job done. And we have nuclear fission as a backstop where necessary.

That may be, energy is less of a worry than it has been previously. Tbh the thing I was most interested in was the laundry restrictions, because we’ve still only got so much water.

That and I actually do pretty alright on that quiz, but I did not have a lifestyle anywhere close to the guidelines I saw.

Can we produce carbon free energy everywhere/easily transport it anywhere?
