Now is our chance to post whatever the fuck we want to slrpnk.net communities from non-slrpnk instances, and the mods cannot stop us.

Woohoo! It’s a censorship-free free-for-all!

The admin for fedinsfw.app now owns lemmynsfw.com. Lemmynsfw uses considerably more resources than its piefed cousin (fedinsfw). Last I heard lemmynsfw was being taken down for a while, possibly permanently because of this.

If you're having issues with bot traffic, we have a trick on RetroLemmy. We use a cron that checks the server load, and when the load is too high it switches the instance into private mode (only logged in users can browse), when load goes back down again it switches to public mode again. Private mode means the bot requests use much fewer resources, but it also means the bots have no content to scrape and they probably run out of links to crawl very quickly.

Heyo, ProdigalFrog here (one of the SLRPNK Admins).

The server had been slowing down quite a bit over the past couple days, so I'm guessing it got overwhelmed with bot traffic and crashed. poVoq is investigating what happened, but according to them it's not clear what went wrong, and it's possible it may be a while before it can be brought back online.

Maybe the web interface is down, but the api is still working.

Edit: maybe it is intermittent, your link is not working for me (maybe slrpnk does not have a cached copy of that community?) but I see posts from today users within the last two hours.

The instance admin announced the shutdown a few months before doing so (which happened in July, I think?). They claimed disappointment in Lemmy becoming no less political than Reddit or something like that. Seemed a thin excuse to me.

How that domain seemed a good fit for yet another casino site, I don't get.

I implemented some perhaps overly ambitious firewalling in an attempt to keep the ai scrapers at bay, so I suspect it does appear to be down. And I clearly have to find and fix whatever is causing that.

The update to v1.11.0 took a long time due to a very long migration in that release. That was the downtime on Friday. After that it was catching up with federation and some random things I didn't notice, because I wasn't on my PC much this weekend
