Owls can’t see 660nm red.* This light is specifically for wildlife observation in a respectful way. “Blasting” them is just a joke because they make fun of my flashlight habbit.

  • With qualifications. This is also true of mammals.

The lantern mode doesn't melt the candy?

But then again maybe I'm underestimating the temperature there, as I am a south east Asian that haven't live in winter since 13 years ago (studied abroad in a 4 seasons country)

The TS27 continues to interest me. On top of the BLF1 lantern (I think) I'm wanting to get this one too (someday).

The potatoes definitely were weird. I figured I was out of the loop on some pop culture reference, but maybe just a neighbor with a weird sense of humor.

Radio is a Tidradio H3 with Signal Stick antenna. Used it on GMRS with my kid on his walkie talkie out and about in the hood.

I have a TS11 and it's nice. I expected it to be of limited use but bought it anyway because anduril. It's more usable than I expected. Unfortunately they replaced it with a v2 version that is apparently worse, oh well.

I have resisted getting a LEP because that's probably too narrow. I've played with some keychain lasers and they are fun but only if they're cheap.

Narrow beams make for good signalling as long as you have a fixed position at the other place you're signalling. Also assuming the other person or group doesn't have nvgs. In that scenario, you're just targeting each other.

I have an Acebeam E10 with a TIR that is perfect for lighting up the opposite side of my extremely long backyard if anything starts moving around back there. I also have some neighbors across a culvert to one side who probably don’t want a floodlight in their downstairs window, so something without much/any spill is good for that section of the yard too.

Actually, I have an L21B in the mail, but with SST-20-DR (deep red) for wildlife spotting. My understanding is that the L21B in a white LED will have a slightly more "usable spill" than the TD01C but I'm not speaking from experience.

I've been planning on getting the Convoy L21B with CULPM1 emitter which equally gives a narrow beam but throws over a kilometer. Not because I need one but because I don't have one like that yet. It's a spotlight. If I need to see up close I'll use another torch.

Hmm either I missed that option or it was added later. I don't understand the gripes about Ti in the comment thread. I have several Ti lights and they're heavy but otherwise great. I don't understand why anyone wants copper, which is even heavier and also oxides into green goo. Anyway thanks.
