Canvas is live!

https://canvas.fediverse.events/

What is canvas?

This is an event where you can place a pixel every 30 seconds onto a canvas everybody participating is placing things onto. We are creating a programming.dev design for the instance on the canvas and anybody who wants to organize something for programming.dev communities or other communities is free to do so!

How to participate?

You can log in using your programming.dev account to the site (it will ask for your handle and then send you a dm with a code to verify that you own the account). Anyone who wants to help out feel free to join in! You can use this thread or the discord/matrix to organize with others or you can organize in the community you want to make something for provided its allowed by the mods

Heres a link that has a template with the current design (its near the bottom of the canvas and there will be smaller dots on the pixel spots with what colors those pixels should be https://canvas.fediverse.events/#tu=https%3A%2F%2Fshare.ategon.dev%2Fu%2FftcgG2.png&tw=500&tx=0&ty=0&ts=DOTTED_BIG&x=250&y=250&zoom=1 I can also edit it to contain any programming.dev related designs if someone wants to organize something)

The main community for the event is at !canvas@toast.ooo

Post will be pinned in the instance for a bit to aid people with grouping up for the event as its only lasting for 48 hours!

Hey people,

Thank you again for coming together and submitting songs to Lemmyvision, it's heartwarming to see different communities of the fediverse participate in sharing their musical interest.

The voting form is available here: https://tally.so/r/GxY0ze

Everyone is welcome to vote, even if your instance or community did not participate! This is a great opportunity to discover new music, and cultures.

@Ategon@programming.dev took the time to create a playlist over at https://d2jam.com/c/lemmyvision-3 feel free to check it out!

Here's the full list of submitted songs:

The form will be available until around the 11th of May, I will then collect the results and publish them shortly after. I hope you’ll have a lot of fun listening to the 13 songs submitted for this edition. Don’t hesitate if you have any question!

What is Lemmyvision?

For people who don't know what lemmyvision is, its a competition where communities on lemmy all submit a song to then be voted on by the participants. The aim is to promote different languages and cultures from around the world, to share more between our online communities across Lemmy, and discover songs from lesser known artists.

Voting

7 tracks have been submitted and you can now rank them to determine which one is sent to the competition. Rank them with 1 being your top option and 7 being your bottom option. Heres links to the 7 songs so you can listen to them if you haven't already. Voting closes in 3 days.

Hello everyone! This is the post to determine the category of what to send for the Lemmyvision song content for Programming.Dev this year!

In lemmyvision 1 P.D sent a song from Casette Beasts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjeTwn9uA3Y

This Edition

For this edition I thought it would be fun to team up P.D with another community I help out with (that will soon be joining the fediverse as well!) D2Jam is a game jam run 2 times a year where people need to make games in 3 days. As part of that are composers that need to compose music for the games within the 3 days. We could submit an song from the jam as the entry for programming.dev to get more eyes on the composers there since some of them are really good but don't have much eyes on their work atm (and it would help people discover songs from lesser known artists that need the discovery).

Examples of some of the songs https://d2jam.com/m/tony-plantony, https://d2jam.com/m/reap-what-you-sow, https://d2jam.com/m/planty-of-us, https://d2jam.com/m/its-watering-time, https://d2jam.com/m/planted (these are not necessarily the ones that would be voted on for what to be sent, these are just some of them from the most recent edition)

I set up a poll where you can vote on whether to do this or just do a regular game soundtrack submission like it was done in lemmyvision 1 (note that it would be limited to only things released in 2025 and 2026 either way). Anyone can vote even if your account is not in P.D (since many people that use the communities have their accounts elsewhere)

Hello friends!

Hope it's okay to post here, let me know if elsewhere is better. Your instance participated for the first edition of Lemmyvision by submitting a video game soundtrack, and I'm glad to announce the third is now live. I'm once again promoting the event and inviting you to participate if you'd like to!

Don't hesitate to check the main post announcement for all the details here : https://programming.dev/post/48164276

TL;DR

  • From right now and until May 3rd, discuss with your Lemmy instance or community about which song to send to the contest.
  • Submit the song in the Lemmyvision community by making a new thread.
  • On May 4th, voting will begin. You will rank your favourite songs in a form. Any song not submitted by this date will not be featured.
  • On May 11th, results of everyone’s favourite songs will be published.
  • You can use !lemmyvision@jlai.lu for any question, this will be the community for updates and results, make sure to subscribe if you’d like to stay in the loop.

We’re continuing our webinar series on building your own fictional programming language!

In our first session, we explored the core building blocks: the lexer, parser, semantic analyzer, and evaluator—how they work and how they fit together.

Now it’s time to dive into grammars. What is a language, really? How can you describe it in a way that a program understands what a sequence of symbols means and what result it should produce? We’ll break it down in a clear and practical way—and, of course, get hands-on with grammars.

Join our webinar on March 27, 1:00 PM UTC+1—there will be lots of interesting insights to discover!

We’re kicking off a webinar series on how to build your own programming language in C++. In this first session, we’ll break down—step by step and in plain terms—what’s inside the “black box”: the lexer and parser, the semantic analyzer, and the evaluator. We’ll talk about what these components are, why they’re needed, and what exactly they do. It’s going to be engaging and approachable. Join us!

What events are allowed to be shared here? Are we allowed to share conferences?

Its the last day of the !canvas@toast.ooo event with it ending 22 hours from when this post is made.

This is an event similar to to r/place where everyone can place a pixel on a canvas every so often. Everyone has access to the same canvas meaning you can work together to construct art and wars can happen for territory leading to needing to defend things that get constructed

Theres still some work that needs to be done for the programming.dev design so any help getting that up is appreciated. There's also still blank space around the canvas if anyone wants to add in their own designs.

Event link: https://canvas.fediverse.events/

The programming.dev design template: https://canvas.fediverse.events/#x=380&y=297&zoom=1&tu=https%3A%2F%2Fbytes.programming.dev%2Ffiles%2Ff2c5ff7d-e015-40be-851d-81ecf3c9e77c&tw=66&tx=403&ty=393&ts=DOTTED_SMALL (were near the bottom right)

Theres a timelapse of the event up to the current point at https://sc07.tv/w/sV6dtF1u1e3wMDB24k2fqZ

Happy pixel placing!

Canvas is happening in almost a day! This is an event similar to to r/place where everyone can place a pixel on a canvas every so often. Everyone has access to the same canvas meaning you can work together to construct art and wars can happen for territory leading to needing to defend things that get constructed

The event link is here: https://canvas.fediverse.events/

This is the third time the event is taking place. Theres an image in the post of what the p.d area looked like the second time it happened (were using a similar ish template this year with some differences so its different than last year)

The main locations for dicussing the event for programming.dev is this community, our discord and our matrix if you want to chat with other people participating

Theres a design that will be getting made for programming.dev in general but if any communities want to organize something feel free to plan out something nearby or elsewhere on the canvas. Any help getting the programming.dev design built will also be really appreciated since then we will be able to expand out the design and get more communities represented in the community icons

You can use this template to know where to place pixels for the programming.dev design when the event is happening
