Hi everyone,

We checked this community this morning and saw that we’re up to 54 subscribers, all with no active posts prior to this!

We want to say a few things to the 53 of you that aren’t us.

  • Each subscriber represents a Canadian that resonates with this community’s purpose. We see this and we sincerely appreciate you all.
  • This community is new. We want to take our time and do things right. We’re new to Lemmy, like many others, and with our own good reasons.
  • We ask that you please be patient while we get things set up.

You are all free to post on your own now - or wait until we are ready to post things that are valuable for our fellow Canadians with a desire to navigate Canadian-focused and based enterprise.

We won’t let you down. As long as this community exists, please know we are working on it - even if it takes some time. If you know any Canadians who resonate with this community’s cause, you’re of course welcome to share it with them if you’d like to.

Again, many thanks from the two of us who are also navigating the new and in-depth world of Canadian business.

Talk soon!

Hi everyone, apologies for letting this community sit dormant for months.

I am a Canadian, as I'm sure most of you are. My original intention was to create a community where those of us passionate about starting a business in Canada could join together and build something positive and share our collective knowledge.

But effective immediately, this community is officially classed as dead.

Honestly, from the bottom of my heart I want to thank every last one of you who joined, and I'm sorry if I gave you any false hope.

You can stop reading here if just want to move on, I get that. Below this I want to speak a little more personally.

Our government at the federal and provincial level have intentionally traded national growth and development for personal gains. They don't care about us.

They claim to support small business, but do you feel supported? They claim that the economy is improving, but have you felt your quality of life go up? They tell us to buy Canadian, but they never tell the mega-corporations to hire Canadian.

They've been boiling the frog, and the heat is really starting to become evident.

I don't know what many of us will do as average Canadians trying to start passionate businesses.

Do you feel our government has done what's best for Canadians as a whole? Can you honestly say they are putting our interests first?

To me these are all questions with obvious answers, but perhaps I am in the minority. It's hard to tell because we don't have enough time or disposable income to form the types of real personal bonds we once did when we were younger.

My point is that I'm coming to a sad reality that we live in a hostile environment, on many fronts. You cannot get ahead because they don't want you to get ahead.

I will still pursue my passions, but I'm no longer doing it in the spirit of our country, because the spirit no longer matches our country.

Support your fellow Canadians, support your fellow man.

I have no clean end to this rambling. No precise point. Thank you for reading.
