very interesting topic but this post reeks of slop and just makes me not want to read it 😞
bro is too ai-pilled to realize they can set up alerts so they don't even need to chat smh
my parents were thinking of doing the same thing but decided against it because they are ultimately concerned about response times from emergency services.
I was able to see, here's the article text:
WASHINGTON, Oct 15 (Reuters) - A U.S. federal appeals court said on Thursday the Federal Communications Commission exceeded its authority in setting up a telecoms subsidy program in the late 1990s used to widen access to communications for millions of Americans.
The FCC collects funds from telecom carriers through a private company for the so-called "Universal Service Fund" that subsidizes basic communications services for consumers in rural and low-income areas.
However, the FCC lacked legal authority in 1997 to establish the company, the Universal Service Administrative Co, to collect the funds and set contribution rates, said Judge Edith Brown Clement.
"Because Congress never specifically authorized the FCC to establish USAC, we hold that the agency violated the Government Corporation Control Act," she wrote for a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
The FCC was considering all options available to it, a spokesperson said in response to Thursday's decision.
"While the court takes issue today with an FCC decision made almost 30 years ago, the court’s order would not go into effect until two months from now, at the earliest," the spokesperson added in a statement.
The fund draws about $9 billion a year, with the vast majority of telecoms companies passing on the cost to customers.
In addition to low-income and rural areas, the fund has been used to widen services to Native American tribal lands, as well as enabling schools, libraries and rural health care facilities to obtain essential communications services.
In June 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court endorsed the way the FCC funds the multi-billion dollar program.
The ruling overturned an earlier Fifth Circuit decision that the FCC's funding mechanism employing mandatory contributions from telecoms companies had effectively levied a "misbegotten tax" on consumers.
U.S. telecom providers get billions of dollars in payments from the Universal Service Fund and millions of consumers rely on such government-subsidized services for internet access or phone service.
In 2024, the FCC program benefited 7.5 million low-income households and gave telecom companies $4.2 billion to provide high-speed internet service in hard-to-serve rural areas.
It also gave 118,000 schools and libraries $7 billion over a three-year period for internet service for 54 million students.
The FCC, overseen by Congress, was set up as an independent federal agency in 1934.

That they don’t have the correct name, that they don’t know he is deceased is unfathomable
Well, if you think about how they've become a racist neo-nazi organization that has been given permission to act out their desires it really isn't that unfathomable. The cruelty is the point.
Wishlisted it a while ago, it looks interesting and cool to read it's got some differences from factorio.
also if you didn't test your disaster recovery system, you don't have one
I wonder if there's a tech demo somewhere on the Internet of DoF using eye tracking
edit: huh yeah, here's a video 18 years old. kinda neat https://youtu.be/HdW1v9TPNYw
if you have coax you can look into using MoCA adapters. Quite a bit faster than powerline but you do need to add a filter to the incoming cable line (if it's connected and you can actually get to it) so your data doesn't get blasted outside your residence
Yep, because it's not about making games, and it's not just about making money, but making more money than other possible investments.

Thanks for the response, good points.
My impression is the battery is the most important consideration for the "lifetime" of the vehicle before real expensive maintenance happens, so for me the question is can you get your value from what you paid before that? I'm just a person, not running a business, so I'm not considering my car as a "depreciating asset," ain't nobody got time for that.
I've also seen posts around the real lifetime of car batteries exceeding expectations, so it seems to have positive evidence building up.
OEM manufacturers disappearing is definitely an issue. I wonder if Fisker has a working aftermarket battery?
A car is a tool, not an investment. Why should I care about it holding value?
it's been my impression that everybody likes dd1 more than 2, but maybe that's from dark arisen having with a lot of QoL improvements and removing the "friction"
paywalled, just wanted to see the context around claiming battery longevity was something to be afraid of 🤨
I'm pretty excited to play this with some friends.
well yeah, getting out is how you win
It's not more safe for cars, though. Maybe safer for Big Oil.
No, the games industry is stifled by greedy individuals that think making games is only about making money for shareholders
just gonna keep relinking this article:
