Removing Greenlight was the beginning of the end. Now the floodgates are open, I don't think they can ever be closed. Curation was important for not just consumer protection but also partner protection. I'm meant to believe I'm a Steam Partner as a developer but I feel more like the subordinate in an abusive relationship. I can't leave Steam but I have no voice in the partnership whatsoever. I've attended Steam round tables at game expos to voice my opinion but 7 years later, only a baby step happened just this year. I suppose I should be grateful for anything but I'm mostly just bitter about the death of Greenlight destroying the discoverability and overall sustainability of my chosen career path of indie development.
Got to spend most of the day hanging with my best friend and business partner currently visiting me for my wedding. We live in different countries now so I rarely get to see him in person, just digitally in Valheim or whatever. Parents arrived as well and we all had lunch together, which was really nice. My friend and I lived with my parents back in 2018-2019 while we were building a small run of arcade cabinets for our little indie fighting game, so he's like family to them now. So yeah, pretty solid day! Thanks for asking!
I think it's bucking the trend of idolizing villains. Not to mention the sheer size of the posters, making them far too much of their identity. Also buying a gold KAWS figure for some ungodly price was a choice...
Currently obsessed with Blue Prince even after "completing" it as I'm trying to figure out some of the remaining unsolved mysteries. Could possibly be that everything is solved but I'm a believer there is still more to be found.
I got a pair of them a little over a year ago for filming myself skateboarding when the homies aren't around to help film. It's cool to see from a first person perspective but the novelty kinda wore off and I rarely use them now. I occasionally bring them out on nature tours to film cool shots of swimming in natural pools right up to waterfalls. I've found the best use cases are when being hands-free is important for the shot. I don't like wearing them in public places unless I forget my other sunglasses. The hands-free audio for phone calls is kinda cool, oh!! I've also done a video chat with my SO while going through her boxes in a storage unit on the other side of the country so she could tell me what to bring home. That was super helpful actually. But yeah, overall they are definitely going to be misused in awful ways by creeps a whole lot more than they'll get used for useful stuff like this so I am not advocating for their existence. Much like AI, people simply can't be trusted with having this tech.
So I made a Japanese learning game on steam and I get hit with negative reviews all the time because it doesn't have enough real Japanese words in it. /facepalm
Edit: Game name is Influent, heavily focused on vocabulary building.
DarkAudacity ftw!
"Time to get paid, blow up like the world trade" hits so much harder post 2001.
Metal Gear Solid 5.
How can you just ditch your main character's voice actor? As a Metal Gear completionist, how do I even play this traditionally linear game now that it's open world and packed with repetitive side missions? Why am I building a strut base and hiring staff that I magically airlift to a chopper out on the battlefield? Overall a disappointment, not because of bad graphics or bad controls or bad gameplay, just a hodgepodge of content that was too much of a departure from the format of the first 4 linear games. I never finished it and probably never will. I know Konami threw multiple wrenches in Kojima's gears during development but I feel the overall direction was still flawed from the onset. Open World was just so popular at that time and maybe they forced it on Kojima, who knows. I know he didn't want to make a 5th game anyway so I'm gonna just pretend it never happened and be happy with the first 4 and the PSP titles.
Get Him To The Greek and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 + Sonic & Knuckles...
Racing through London, New York, Vegas, and LA levels in 2D as the rounder version of Jonah Hill who can somehow Spindash while Russell Brand keeps getting in your way, much like the cpu-controlled tails always does anyway. Lots of drug-based powerups that wear off after throwing up on yourself. Also picturing P-diddy as Dr. Robotnik for some reason. What a weird fucking movie. Had never seen it and was blown away when I realized it was essentially the sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
