Yeah, I totally agree. The only thing I can guess, aside from people just being assholes, is that someone with many years of experience is only thinking of what they liked after gaining that experience.

For example, if someone learned with Debian and then moved on to Arch, they think Arch is "better" and I think they are telling others to not waste their time on Debian. They are totally ignoring the fact that they spent quite a bit of time learning before they moved on and they are advising that a newcomer skip to what they perceive as "the end."

I just bought a recent ebook on Kobo. Two listings for different prices with EVERYTHING on the listing identical except the more expensive one had 2 authors. I had to look up separately that the second author is actually a translator and the more expensive book was a translation. The store listing didn't even have the language! I had to guess by the ethnicity of the translator's name 🤦🤦🤦

Yeah I understand the hate but this is a nothingburger when it comes to micro transactions. They can already milk us for all we have with ease. Sounds more like patent abuse honestly. But as far as scummy practices, this doesn't really make them any worse than they already are.

What made me understand this was realizing that it meant any two people. The first time I heard this I was thinking that if I was in a group of 70 or 80 people, there was almost a 100% chance of someone having the same birthday as me. But it's not comparing to an individual, it's comparing all of the pairs. I hope that makes sense

I've distro hopped quite a bit over the last few years. I've realized recently that I tend to gravitate toward KDE Plasma as a desktop environment, but I don't take advantage of the customization as much as I could.

As I sit here looking through the KDE Plasma settings I'm curious to hear what are some favorite things to change in any DE. Please share what you like to do when you get a vanilla install. Do you have a favorite icon pack? Do you have a favorite theme? Any particular widgets that you would recommend?

I'm sure there is more out there than I can think of. Please share!

Edit: I can't respond to everyone, but this is a great discussion. So many good suggestions and ideas. Keep them coming!

My family and I drink pretty much every style of coffee regularly, but the favorite by far is iced coffee brewed hot into ice using a Hario switch. (James Hoffman's recipe that includes the ice in the recipe). It tastes the best to everyone and it can be made cold in less than 10 minutes (unlike cold brew, which has to be made ahead of time).

The problem I have now is that everyone enjoys it so much that I make a minimum of 6x 500ml batches per week and it's just labor intensive. All I really need is a machine that does immersion brewing and lets me set a "steep time" after pre infusion. I love my regular coffee machine but it has no mechanism to hold the water in.

Does such a thing exist? I can't find anything that is not manual. I've tried a larger French press with a paper filter but that gets messy quickly. Any suggestions?

    Thanks ☕
