I think basically yes, the tariff strategy was too easy to bypass with de minimis. And the temus and alibabas of the world sold almost exclusively de minimis goods at much faster rates than before, basically edging into Amazon's turf too effectively, and our ruling class doesn't like that

Man actually what the hell is even going on out there

A senior ‌member of DRC’s governing Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) party was beaten to death days ago after taking part in a radio programme to raise awareness about the epidemic

His house was set on fire afterwards

Thanks for the tale. Shit happens, fate is funny. Nothing really bad happened, so that's something to be grateful for, taking a risk on love is something that comes with many hazards, but becoming invulnerable has many different hazards. You both tried your best, they even got a job. In a sense, you laid in the bed you made, and now you have the knowledge of what you should accept wrt chores and finances. You can't really resent a person for doing what you let them do (never cooking, not paying their share). I had a friend that broke up with 3 different wives because all of them refused to do... anything. Eventually they learned to stop letting their relationships develop like that, and that's wisdom. Nothing I'm saying is new info or will help you feel better

The extremely dumb thing here is that the water use is totally fine. California alone uses ~11 TRILLION gallons of water per year for farming. And so what, that water cycle returns via precipitation (assuming we don't go so hard to fuck up the aquifers, but you know what I mean). The water is fine. Plus that farm water runoff is even kinda hazardous, with pesticides etc. It's still fine

This is a totally recyclable resource. You can probably use it to water plants after it's been through the data center, or it may have just evaporated away as part of the cooling process

Meanwhile, the obvious dart to throw is the fact that the power need is absolutely ridiculous and only growing, leading to every major tech company investing extensively in energy tech. Eventually they will become a new generation of utilities that supply power (and compute) to everyone. So the opportunity is to force them to reinvent energy in a clean way rather than, say, burning an utter shitton of oil to do it

At this point I just let codex run as root and control entire server clusters. It does a better job than I used to, and we finally get to live in the sci fi universe where I can talk to my computer and it does stuff

Yeah the world isn't going to get hacked because of some rogue AI, it's gonna get hacked because someone told it to update some database somewhere and stopped paying attention

Yeah I don't love this offshoot of "if you're not with us you're against us" mentality. Like, nah, I just only have so many years to live and I'm busy doing other things rn, like having mental breakdowns and chainsmoking
