Even if they were charged a $10b fine, that's a miniscule percentage of their profits each year and corporations that big always look at them as operating expenses
Prime example: Verizon

I agree with needing to set these types of safety nets in place. Parents should set these for these types of situations as well as making it known things like "if you're drunk then call me to pick you up before you drive". This is literally just good parenting even if the kid never uses it, because its way better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
This is such a beautiful story.
An issue I've run into has been that every time I try to run yt-dlp I get an error because I haven't imported cookies from an account or used a browser with them saved.
This may be a noob question, as I went through a certificate course and a half and have self-taught things which are useful in my homelab ever since, but have you guys found a way around that? Also, if not, is it safe-ish to use an account which is linked to my google account which goes back about a decade?
I also apologize if this is inappropriate for this thread, I'd love to see and would be interested in contributing to a decentralized YouTube project like this in any way I can.
I see the issue as being that the majority of the workforce can't find a job like the one you describe. Someone has to work in restaurants, someone has to be the helper, the janitor, the maid, etc. and the jobs, especially in IT at this point, that you describe are few, far between, and take years of training as well as connections and ALOT of luck to get into.
I appreciate this sentiment, but it's an increasingly unrealistic goal for the majority of people in the west but especially in the US nowadays.
I'm glad someone brought the impact of the collapse of the USSR on the conditions of workers in the capitalist countries into this thread!
You're right, maybe I should've been less argumentative in my comment, my apologies about that.
You make a good point. I'll cede my argument that every single landlord got the starting capital from the exploitation of others, because there are exceptions in every circumstance.
I do also think that there's another elephant in the room which is that landlordism in general boils down to holding a basic need hostage and charging more than it's worth to people who don't have the entire value at once. In my eyes this is simply being a parasite, and I also get worked up about all of this, so I'm sorry if I came off as argumentative or hostile in my comment.
I would personally argue that any wealthy individual under capitalism is only able to be wealthy on the basis of exploitation. In my view labor creates value, so no matter how far you have to go back you will always find rampant exploitation of labor when you see a wealthy individual or family.
This is plain to see when you critically think about this idea of development of land into housing for landlords to rent out. The landlord (wealthy individual due to exploitation of labor) buys land, hires people to do labor on it (exploitation), which creates value that's added to said land.
I would also disagree on the idea that landlords are in any way victims of this system, they are more like the benefactors of it, as the system as a whole is set up to benefit their class and is much easier on them. They pay less taxes in a lot of regions, they don't have to sell their labor power to eat, they can always get favored treatment with banks and financial institutions, and, at least where I live, they can send lobbyists to local, state, and federal governing bodies to advocate for their interests with money (bribery).
"Marxism has never existed outside of mental exercise. Every single time it has been imposed it has failed to do anything but act as a rhetoric for power and control."
This, as the last commenter said, is completely ahistorical and incorrect. Every society in which Marxists have come to power was previously unequal, impoverished, unindustrialized, and most of the time a colony of another power. Every time this has happened the countries end up industrializing and eliminating severe poverty within a few decades, as well as providing housing, healthcare, food, transportation, work, and every other basic necessity for each one of their citizens. This can be seen with a simple look past the cold war rhetoric and into the actual history of the world.
Communism was also the primary force which defeated fascism everywhere that it popped up up until the 80s or 90s.
Christians in the US used to be this way. All the way through the first half of the 20th century the majority of protestants in the US were Socialist or Socialist adjacent as you describe. It was only through the state co-opting their movement and the radicals within it merging with the "America First" crowd around WWII that we got the current Christan nationalist movement..
Same comrade..so many amazing people I've known are either dead or locked up for extended sentences because of that cycle. We were the rarities that actually made it out!
Here Here, Comrade!
