Saw a cool trick on IG, bit wasteful but works if you really want to save the container (I agree we should switch away from plastics - someday..). Piece of paper towel or napkin, drop of dish soap, a splash of hot water, close tight and shake thoroughly so the paper goes all around the inside, remove paper, rinse, wash normally.

I'll add A Serbian Film, and Ex Drummer. Great or at least interesting/insightful movies, extremely difficult to watch, completely depressing. I saw them as a teen, though, so I wonder if they would have the same effect.. but I'm not going to try.

I sometimes manage to console myself by looking at it all as a bizzarre blip in the universe, we will go as we came - unnoticed. Maybe Earth is the next Mars. Just takes a bit of that soul-crushing gravity off, so that I don't feel like a failure for not always being able to fight, all day, every day.

I feel like it should be both. Purely top down decisions eventually lead to distortions and resentment (e.g. USSR). There needs to also be the grinding and mostly thankless work of shifting the cultural hegemony (this is Gramsci, and I tend to believe him).

I would love to know from the rest here - isn't a solution to the ad creep just... not buying things? Like going for second hand / refurbished, avoiding big brands for food and drink, and just not shopping online (ffs)? Or am I being naive? Enlighten me!

Of course working under the assumption that the government cannot (yet) admit to tracking us for more sinister purposes. That's a problem for another day.
