Do they still do it? Thought it was the meme/fad of the 80s/90s.
It is interesting seeing Americans always complaining about gas prices(especially now) whilst also owning vehicles that use up fuel by just looking at them.
One of my biggest pet peaves is products/services/projects being named common nouns.
Who gave you permission to do that!?
What are you planning on doing on the roof?
Pardon my ignorance, but did they have other options during the 90s and early 2000s? Did they have big software houses that could produce their own OS or tailor Linux to what I assume was then foreign hardware, and also have the ability to interact with standard file formats like Microsoft Office documents so that they could interact with foreign companies?
(Since tone can be hard to convey in text, and comment threads often lean aggressive, I want to say that these are genuine questions, not an attempt to be snarky)
How so?
China's tech boom is relatively recent so they had to rely on western tech in the mean time. Now they probably also have the same issues as other non US countries in that it is hard to retrain all staff to use a "new" OS and related software.
Curious, did you mention this after annexation threats? I could understand before the second Trump term as most countries assumed that the US "checks and balances" wouldn't allow a president to just lob grenades everywhere including at the US's own feet.
Pardon me if I am being presumptuous but the title seem to imply that the author was going to use somewhat equivalent non US alternatives rather than rummaging through what they already own.
To use an analogy, it is as if you have an article titled "I survived 72 hours without eating processed foods" and the author opted not to buy non processed alternatives and just work with with whatever they have at their home. Then you learn it was a couple of onions and a tomato they had in the fridge. If they say they were starving by the end of the experiment, it does not really paint an honest picture of how hard it is to get by without processed foods.
I am confused as to why they went with a dumb phone. Why not go with a non american degoogled android phone? Or to even go a step further, get a sailfish OS powered phone.
