Amazon execs were concerned that Gero’s take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise’s already dedicated fanbase.
Translation from executive speak: “We couldn’t make it suck so we’re not gonna make it at all”

We can't have shit in this world >:(
Gero, just say you'll put AI in it or something
God dammit.
Good. Forever culture is arse anyway. Let things end.
Except that Stargate didn't really end. :(
They beat everyone including god lol
The Wraith are still out there.
mosquants that spent too long reading my immortal aren't very interesting after you kill 3 pantheons, grey goo, and have magic powers ancient technology
Still if you think it is write your own ending and put it on AO3, make an amateur movie, just keep a journal of your own private musings. You can create what you feel should be satisfying
hmm which god are you talking about? they beat like a few dozen
The god gods. Like the space fire Christians with actual god gods
'This setting was cool and we should do new things in it' is not exactly retelling Batman's origin story for the hundredth time.

So in other words it would have been good but execs gotta come in and make it shit.
Aka they wanted to make it yet another generic dogshit franchise that appeals to no one in the hopes everyone watches, based on absolutely nothing because that has never happened but middle manglement must try and justify their existence.
Amazon owns some really good franchises, but they just can’t seem to produce any decent content from them.
Well, that would mean spending money, so what can you do?
Landlords own some really good land, they just can't seem to maintain any decent houses on them
Capitalism gonna capital. This is what you get when concepts are legally classified as intellectual property to be hoarded.
Dang. I remember seeing a clip on YouTube of a video chat with some of the SG-1 creators seeming genuinely excited about this.
TV execs are idiots.
One of the few Sci-Fi's I liked, not sure whether to be disappointed or glad they aren't ruining it.
Hopefully they still do Mass Effect.
I find that I am less and less willing to invest enthusiasm in American productions as they don’t get enough commitment from their streamers to make it worth it.
Apple seems to be make two season commitments for most shows, but generally they are following the self-destructive pattern of Syfy. There’s only so many times one can be burned.
It's offensive, considering how The Office built Netflix. None of these services have figured out, if it deserves a second season, you can just keep going, and the audience will be there. Offer a lower budget if it makes you feel better. Just let the goddamn thing happen.
Not aided by the number of shows that apparently think it's still 1999 and a good cliffhanger will ensure another season, meaning absolutely nobody's happy.
I'm with you, but at the same time I never had too much hope for this one so this doesn't come as a huge shock. The days of streaming services paying tons of money for prestige TV are largely behind us.

Ahh the 'ol show writing by focus group approach.
Man, ngl, I thought having Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich associated with this project was absolutely bizarre, given that their movies and books bore only a passing resemblance to the juggernaut that Stargate became and they were reportedly not happy with the direction it took.
I like Joe Malozzi a lot, but I was not convinced he had a lot of say in things.
I can't say I'm unhappy about this imploding. I was pretty sure it was going to suck. I hope they manage to get it off the ground with someone who truly gives a shit, but I have no idea who that might be. Henry Cavill? If only.
Bummer. Hope someone else picks it up.
Amazon MGM could revisit Stargate with another showrunner — possibly someone without history with the existing franchise who would “give it a fresh perspective,” according to Deadline.
You won't want it.
I agree with the sentiment, but Amazon owns the license outright since they bought MGM, so I wouldn't count on it.
