This vid is freakin EPIC! Highly recommended long form exposé of a guy trying to help this family get back his Lego collection from a scumbag company.

Cool watch. Second video with a possible resolution is on his patreon though. So after watching an hour plus video I still don't know what happened.

The second video will also land on YT, just with a delay. Spoiler: It got worse for him and he had to leave the US to Mexico.

Thanks, I figured it would end up on YouTube but I'll probably never see it unless it is posted to Lemmy again. And maybe not then.

It was an interesting enough story to take up my time while I'm laying here sick. But after that non ending I don't think I'll watch another one.

    Appreciate the post though!

There's part 2 of the video and it is a whole order of magnitude more insane. Utah police essentially come out in force to intimidate and arrest anyone trying to serve these franchise owners with court papers, going as far as claiming theyre transporting heroin and searching their car for 3 hours to having a SWAT team raid their AirBnB with the claim that they (Ben) actually stole the Lego. The entire group was arrested and Ben was being held without bail until a judge actually looked at the case and released him. The PD then filed new charges calling him a danger to the public.

This whole situation is currently unfolding so there is no "ending" to be had at this point.

That is insane, thank you for the update. It sucks they have to go through all this to get the Legos back. Hopefully a resolution does come soon. And hopefully someone looks into those police officers.

The cops come and arrest the people trying to recover the bricks because the thief lied and said 'nuh uh, they stole them!' and the cops were like okay!

hope they sue the everlasting shit out of these local yokels and get satisfaction, but this is america so...

I searched "bricks minifigs" (to cover both "Brick & Minifigs" and "Bricks and Minifigs") to see if anyone on Lemmy was talking about this. I got no results from that, but I found this post by searching "Reckless Ben".

Just in case anyone is interested in more, here's Bricks & Minifigs' blog post about the matter, and Reckless Ben's reaction to the Bricks & Minifigs blog post.

The whole thing is kinda mind-blowing (even the fact that a Star Wars Lego collection could be worth $200k). It gets much worse in part 2, which is currently paywalled, but I think it'll get published for free after some time.

Anyway, hopefully this makes the post more searchable :)

I love how those nefarious conspirator cops are actively colluding to cover this up. This is drama you couldn't make up. Or did they?

This is such an insane story.

After Part 1 in the currently unlisted Part 2, he travels to Utah to serve these new franchise owners with court papers personally, and has the local Utah police come out in force to not only stop him from serving the papers but also manufacture a bunch of crimes. He's stopped by police no less than a dozen times, they accuse him of having heroin in the car and search it for 3 hours before finding nothing, they come to his AirBnB and arrest his friend for having a sign saying the franchise owner stole the Lego, then they come back with a search warrant and raid the house and arrest everyone claiming they stole the Lego. Police then charge him with some unnamed, manufactured crime and give him no bail, a judge sees this and releases him on bail anyway, they then file new charges against him calling him a threat to public safety, which is where the video ends.

All this so that BAM corporate can steal $200k in Lego for a corporation worth hundreds of millions.

There are several updates including videos and evidence from the previous franchise owners showing that BAM stole their life savings as well.

I can't see Bricks and Minifigs coming out of this without serious damage and they continue to double down despite mountains of proof demonstrating that they're behind this, they have the Lego sets, and refuse to pay for them. That police department is also going to be facing some serious issues too.
