I wouldn't have installed it if I didn't have to. Honestly with each new version of windows it is harder to navigate and looks worse. It's honestly impressive that they take some that worked well and continuously make it worse.

Oof, Windows 11 is really needy as far as an OS goes. I forget that the machine is supposed to serve me, not demand things me from the all the time.

The grass really is greener in the Linux world. Hope more people get to experience that soon.

I needed to upgrade my pc. If I knew i had reliable security updates going forward, I would keep using Windows 10. Remember when Windows 10 was supposed to be the last windows? Hah

  • A Switch and Click video I saw the other day said that Windows 11 is showing ads inside the actual OS. Hard pass.

Main problem is MS is cutting security update for Windows 10 soon unless you pay them.

Using a bad OS is one thing, using an insecure one for work is dangerous, so I was forced to update.

  • I upgraded to Fedora and convinced my employer that I really need to run this at work, too. Fuck Microsoft.

That's only because I left for Linux.

The AI crap added to notepad was something I didn’t believe until I saw it for myself. Like a fractal cauliflower blossom of bloat touching all things.

You can move it back. My forced on me win11 looks a lot like my win10.

Not saying I like it, it's owned and controlled by the employer, but with a little work some of the shitty pointless default UI changes can be minimized.

My workplace (government) has left it to the last minute and I bet a lot of others have as well. The numbers should shift hard in the next 3 minths.

Unless we are all techies we don't have much to switch to.

There's plenty of tutorials on YouTube to walk you through installing all the major linux distros. And distros like mint are pretty streamlined now. It's pretty straight forward. And there's a good community here that is always willing to help.

I found Mint rather simple to install. That said, I am a techie. I am using several different distros in my house, but I wanted to live in Mint for a while to see how well a non-techie might fare. My reasoning was that since Ubuntu (Mint's parent) is rather ubiquitous, there is more development and more attention paid to support and troubleshoot issues. So far, so good. Yes, being tech literate does help, but I think a non-techie could live with Linux. And over time, the environment will become more known like Windows is now.

I don't have a significant need to use a laptop or desktop as my phone is my primary computing device. With that said, I run Mint Debian Edition on my laptop. Just because I want my computer to work when I go to use it, even if it has been six months.

I'm not a RedHat fan (actually very explicitly not a fan), but frankly Fedora with Gnome seems as problematic as Windows at worst, and very easy to install.

    Different version, probably.

I think the way to approach this is creating a PR that a simple (plenty of people autologin on Windows) functionality is hard to find. It's also very valuable feedback for the developers, they usually have sort of tunnel vision and see completely different things as terribly important for users, while some really important (and maybe easy to do) just skip because in their skewed view it's not pressing.

That could be replaced with proper QA and lots of testing on focus groups and so on, but we live in 2025, nobody does things properly anymore.

Took long enough. People are so god damn stubborn.

Windows 11 is an annoying experience out of the box, yes; like Linux, you have to do some tweaking to get it functioning the way you like it (start with installing StartAllBack to fix the Start Menu + taskbar issues, and O&O Shut Up 10 to stop the ads and telemetry) but if you're big into HDR like me then there is no OS better than Win11 for a quality HDR experience that just works.

But if you're not into HDR, don't play games with kernel-level anticheat, and don't have expensive DJ equipment that is only compatible with Windows and MacOS, then there is no reason to continue using Windows. Linux is a much better option for you.

And only because Win10 installations kill themselves if you dont upgrade.
