Well let’s get some data involved then. According to this article from mid last year, The Late Show was averaging ~2.5 million viewers in the Nielsen ratings: https://www.tvinsider.com/1202434/late-night-ratings-2025-gutfeld-kimmel-colbert-fallon/

Looking through the youtube channel, the average uploaded video over the last couple weeks has ~600,000 views. The biggest one scrolling down was almost 2 weeks ago with 2.5 million views as of now. Of course it’s not all one to one, but assuming no crossover between youtube and TV viewers, this interview would have to hit at least 3-3.5 million views to be more popular than the average segment, and higher than 5 million views to absolutely guarantee that it is more popular than an already popular segment.

At time of writing the interview has 2.3 million views after 16 hours, almost matching the TV audience for an episode, matching an 11 day popular video, and I’m about to add one more to the count which I normally wouldn’t. You can hold your belief if you want, but I am curious to see how it pans out over the next week or two.

Why would the FCC have anything to say about the content of this incredibly tame interview?

And it's not just the Colbert show. I'm deleting more and more and more media apps/accounts/etc. Pretty soon it will just be whatever comes up on Lemmy.

Unfortunately The Daily Show, The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart and Late Night with Colbert are all Larry Ellison productions so even though they may sound adversarial they're just helping to treat Trump like politics-as-usual in the US.

It really isn't though. This is an authoritarian coup. By the time the elections roll around it'll be too late to make them fair and democratic. The Media is one of the reasons why.

Here's his website, if you want to learn more about Talarico:

    https://jamestalarico.com/meet-james-talarico/

As a legislator, I’ve passed major legislation to fund our neighborhood schools, expand job opportunities for young adults, and lower the cost of child care, housing, and prescription drugs.

I’ve led the fight against the billionaire mega-donors that have rigged the system against working Texas families. And I’m the only member of the Texas Legislature who has never taken corporate PAC money.

Now, as those same billionaire mega-donors take over the federal government, we need more fighters in Washington who will take power back for working people.

    Brilliant Stressand Effect.

Talarico certainly knows how to work the angles. One reason I'm bullish for him in the general. If anyone has a chance at flipping Texas, its a guy who makes $1 in spending feel like $100.

Jasmine Crockett is alright, but the regime is clearly more frightened of Talarico. Sad that (I think) he's polling behind her.

Watch this if you can. I had it at 1.35 speed and that was about right. This is what every red state democrat should be like and be doing.

Had to bail on the neverending religion/god talk.

Dude, I get it, but he's the best kind of Christian for the red states. He wants a separation of church and state and fought for it. He tells everyone to love their neighbor no matter if they're LGBTQ+, another ethnic group or another religion. This is the best red state candidate there is.

Yep. He actually follows Christ. It's nice to see

Yeah, Talarico is an anti-christian nationalist Christian who actually believes and follows the actual teachings of Jesus...he's living proof that real Christians still exist and understand biblical teachings about liberal ideas. Jesus is too liberal for most pretend Christians, aka evangelicals. Evangelicals aren't actually Christian, because Christ's teachings are too liberal for their conservative hate and bigotry. They just usurped the religion to teach the hateful side of it. They use it and abuse it.

I support this guy and hope he does well, but anyone who is this religious, but also simultaneously smart and competent must have some dangerous psychothapy below the surface. Wait did I say I support him, hmm.
