So did they wind up getting permitted in the country by Italian authorities? I'm still trying to wrap my head around that one...

In 1992, Meloni joined the Youth Front, the youth wing of the Italian Social Movement (MSI), a neo-fascist political party founded in 1946 by followers of Italian fascism. She later became the national leader of Student Action, the student movement of the National Alliance (AN), a post-fascist party that became the MSI's legal successor in 1995 and moved towards national conservatism.

Giorgia Meloni is an Italian politician who has served as Prime Minister of Italy since October 2022.

    Do you mean ICE ?

If I understand correctly the special section of ICE that is in Italy is there only to protect idiots like JD Vance etc. They are absolutely not there for any immigration related issues or law enforcement.

And the Italian authorities said as such making very clear that their agents don't have any jurisdiction there.

But arent there other Federal agencies that can provide security, like the Secret Service?

Having ICE involved in this thing that is so far out of its mission kind of proves the point that ICE is really Trump's private army, doesn't it?

Why would ICE be doing executive protection when they can barely do the extremely limited job that they exist for and we have multiple agencies that are already equipped and trained to actually do that job?

It's because the people who run ICE won't ask silly questions like "Is this job within the scope of my department's mission?" Or "Are there other agencies that are better equipped to do this".

Or even "Is what Donald Trump asking me us to do legal?".

They just do what the Boss says.

Sure, but if I was the boss I would want the elite highly trained experts protecting me, not the guys I hired without screening or training to rough up the peasants.

I'm sure ICE is only support for the secret services. It's not replacing that.

With the global anti-Americanism (and honestly well deserved) I suppose they needed a bunch of grunts in case their political figures visiting in Italy gets attacked by an angry crowd.

Secret services are not meant to handle large crowds (nor ICE to be fair).

Inviting gestapo to your country should be a reason for the treason trial.
