"Straight pride" isn't a thing. It's purely a reactionary response to gay pride.

The point of gay pride is for gay people to show that they're not afraid to be who they are in the face of systematic discrimination. It is specifically countering the culture of gay shame that had been the norm in the past. Straight people are already the overwhelming majority and have never been oppressed for their sexual orientation. There's was never any shame associated with it so it makes no sense to proclaim that you're "proud" to be straight.

It's like someone who finished a marathon expressing their pride for their accomplishment, and some loser who has to make everything about themselves says "well I sat on my ass all day and I deserve to be proud of that too!"

The issue is not that it's not okay to be proud of being straight, you're welcome to feel pride all you want. The issue is when you but into someone else's moment and make it about yourself.

Congratulations, you have uncovered part of the context of the meme. Can you figure out how the given assertions is making fun of “straight pride” fans, without making fun of gay pride enjoyers?

Reading it back I can see how I might have come off as arguing with the OP. I had just intended to add some context in general around why "straight pride" isn't a generally accepted thing but gay pride is, because whenever this comes up you usually get at least one person asking "what, so we're supposed to be ashamed of being straight now? That's just discrimination in reverse!”

Minor disagreement. I'm a straight dude who celebrates gay pride, and that usually comes off as a green flag to women considering sleeping with me

It may, but that's actually a sign of violence against women.

Sure, if you're a TERF and believe that validating trans people is violence against women. Giving you the benefit of the doubt that you probably don't recognize that as a TERF talking point, I'd advise you to be more careful about where you source your facts lest you end up accidentally spewing hate. If you are a TERF, I'd advise you that trans rights are human rights and you should stop being a bigot.

Actually being progressive to get women's attention and tell them about how lucky they are that he's not like these other closed minded men can certainly be used to control a woman. I highly recommend reading "Why does he do that? Inside the mind of angry and controlling men" by Lundy Bancroft.

I had to admit that I had been controlling of my wife for years and didn't even realize I was doing it. Sometimes I try to cling to my old ideas and dismiss this stuff but I really can't.

There's a huge difference between being progressive to attract women and being progressive and noticing that some women find that attractive. I'm glad you were able to work out/are working on your demons. I don't appreciate being accused of the same based on a comment that only relates to your situation if you make significant assumptions.

I can't tell if there is a hidden joke about my other straight arm being really skinny because I only wank myself to sleep due to not having all the sex or maybe that's implied still anyway? Anywho, 💀

Media will have us believe a lot of straight women have been with another woman at least once. I don't know if that's true...

Aren’t lesbians gay as well? I thought it was a gender neutral term

Language is complicated and messy. There's plenty to suggest that for the people that coined the term, they meant for gay to apply to all genders. Then a prominent group of gay women claimed the term lesbian as a specific type of gay woman.

We can argue that lesbian was a specific group of women, not meant to mean all gay women. However, because there's no equivalent 'male only' gay, over time their usage drifted to mean all homosexual men and all homosexual women respectively.

Since language is descriptive, not prescriptive, we can't say the new usage is wrong, just that it's different from what the terms used to mean.
