Not happy about a teenagers speech during highschool ceremony, Now it's national news. Congratulation dumbass. Genuine congratulation to the young woman, for speaking out.

"I'm a little angry, maybe, at the unfortunate situation, especially since I had connected the situation to the values of the school board and what I had learned throughout my four years of being at the school," she said.

"I was applying that to being an advocate and making sure that those who are oppressed have a voice in our society."

It'd be great if the OCDSB school board could act with the same integrity that they're trying to instill in their students.

So, the valedictorian was a good student and learned the lessons of history and the values that we would hope for her to learn. Good for her.

I would have been very disappointed to have a principal under me make a choice like that during my career.

The student should receive a public apology from the principal and be allowed to finish her school year with dignity alongside her classmates.

The school board's trustee "agreed that Yao did not break any rules. She cited the OCDSB's own guidelines, which say "slogans or symbols that signal solidarity, such as 'Free Palestine' etc. are permitted so long as they don't violate the code of conduct.".

And the board said that no students were suspended as a result of the speech.

So why is this principal's panties getting all bunched up for? She called Yao and told her not to go to school even though Yao's not suspended? Sounds like a personal intimidation by the principal to me.

That's exactly what it is, bullying, by the principal; disgusting.

If they had legitimate grounds for a suspension they wouldn't have made intimidating comments. The principal wanted to punish the student but knew they had no legitimate reason and hoped the student would quietly acquiesce.

If anyone is interested in sending an email detailing your thoughts, they have a general email address here:

    bellhs@ocdsb.ca

The school is part of the Ottawa-Carleton district school board with Amanda Presley as the trustee for the Zone. Her email is amanda.presley@ocdsb.ca

I've written Amanda Presley. You can also write principal Conrad directly through the school contact site https://bellhs.ocdsb.ca/our-school-landing/staff

Principals are bound by Accepting Schools Act, 2012, S.O. 2012, c. 5 - Bill 13 and Bill 14, Anti-Bullying Act, 2011 of Ontario to prevent bullying and intimidation in their schools. A principal who intimidates and bullies her own students cannot carry out her legal duty. This is completely unacceptable behaviour.

Please write to the board. This level of politics is much easier to influence through grassroots activism. A few dozen emails will go far! You can be the change you want to see in the world. Please take 5 minutes and write a short email!

It appears they define 'terrorist' as 'anyone who is a terrorist, or knows a terrorist, or has family members that is a terrorist, or knows someone whose family member is a terrorist, or knows someone who is friends with someone whose family member is a terrorist, or is a reporter"

In the end, its a land grab, they want to take West Bank over.
