Not everybody is a tanky here.

I joined waay before the reddit API change and .ml was like one of three available instances.

using something like Mastodon is no harder than signing up for X or Facebook. The difference is you won’t be treated like a product, you’ll be treated like a person.

I like this. I might reuse it.

the mental toll was the second biggest reason why i started using lemmy & the fediverse full-time instead of reddit or facebook like i did in the past.

there's still a lot of redditors & facebookers on lemmy, but they've thankfully quarantined themselves either on .world or used the extensive block lists that they curate/share w each other; effectively keeping the tribalism & toxicity they carried w them at bay and atleast for now.

the biggest reason was because of the content suppression and it's been a real eye opening experience for me to watch those self-quarantined sections of feddiverse heavily leverage that toxicity & tribalism to keep the content that they don't like at bay for themselves.

Good points, but the reality is it’s still tiny compared to mainstream platforms. The communities are smaller, the reach is limited, and a lot of the conversations I care about still happen on places like Reddit or even mainstream social media.

I enjoy the Fediverse for what it is and support the idea behind it, but I can’t fully leave the bigger platforms yet because that’s still where most of the people and content are.
