Surely theres working class people that identify israeli. They don't have to agree with the current regime though. I identify as Dutch, but I don't agree with the current regime in my country and they're not even genocidal nazis... yet

Right? It's like saying everyone from the US is a maga Nazi.

No, just around half of the voting block are MAGA Nazis. 20% of the US is not even of voting age. Then around half of what's left is too busy being overworked and/or undereducated to even know what MAGA is, let alone voting for anyone at all.

So really only 31% of the US voting-eligible population voted for Trump, and only 22% of the US population did.

here’s the catch: a two state solution involves tacit acceptance of genocide. so therefore those who agree with that solution are ok with genocide. and finally are therefore not actually worth caring about.

those who are not ok with genocide are not ok with israel as a nation state.

in very much the same way I am not ok with the US as a nation state. and with the reminder that “israel” is younger than some of our parents and grandparents.

good. any nation that allows these genocidal nazis any comfort is itself a criminal nation and a disgrace.

Have they stopped exporting weapons to Israel?

Yes, they said they blocked number of export applications recently.

If I understood you correctly, they blocked some, not all, in which case they're still exporting material subject to export controls (i.e. military equipment) to Israel.

The Netherlands has tightened restrictions on arms exports to Israel, with new export licenses now considered "virtually impossible" under current circumstances.

I'm not sure what I thought it said exactly, but I took it to mean the opposite of what was written. Dunno how that happened other than me being careless. I'm wfh and cruising Lemmy on the side during slow bits, so I might have had my attention divided; but that's not an excuse to say the wrong thing on a topic that's this important.

I belive it may be Shengen ban?

Edit: I only found one source (not in English) saying it would apply to the entire Shengen zone and it refers to information given by NOS TV station.

I cannot verify if it is true.

That would be better, and that is what the Dutch government would rather have but they don't have that power. These two people have become persona non grata, which means they aren't allowed to enter the country and will be thrown out if they (try to) enter the country.

Thank you, although I just found a new source referring to Shengen:

    https://www.politico.eu/article/gaza-israel-netherlands-government-bans-entry-israeli-ministers-smotrich-and-ben-gvir/

Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp announced that both ministers will be designated as “undesirable aliens in the Schengen system,” effectively prohibiting their entry into the Netherlands.

    Is it mistranslation?

It seems to me they not careful enough in translating or interpreting the letter they refer to. The letter in Dutch (as it is send between bodies of government) states the following:

Het kabinet heeft daarom besloten de Israëlische ministers Smotrich en Ben-Gvir tot persona non grata te verklaren en heeft de inzet om hen te registreren als ongewenste vreemdelingen in het Schengenregistratiesysteem SIS.

The first part is what I got from the news, they banned these two ministers from the country. The second part says they want make that Schengen-wide. But, as I expected, this cannot be decided by a single country. Below is a machine translation by Deepl which I guess is what Politico should have used instead:

The cabinet has therefore decided to declare Israeli ministers Smotrich and Ben-Gvir persona non grata and is committed to registering them as undesirable aliens in the Schengen registration system SIS.

  • Looking at them vehave; the look person shaped, like in astill image they might pass for this or that friend's cousin, a young version of a favorite teacher or sonething.

But nothing they do is human. They're like demons wearing human skin. It's terrifying. The fact they're allowed here means i can't trust anyone without dark skin until i know them.

Why not grant them the visa and arrest them when their foot touches dutch soil? It would also stoke fear of travel in general from Israel. Seems like the ministers did Israel a favor with this move.

  • [–] 5 points 1 year ago (1 child)

Should impose a travel ban on all Likud ministers, all government officials, all military personnel, and all settlers. Anything less is worthless lip service.

Be careful, sister. While Smotrich and Ben-Gvir are certainly genocidal and guilty of war crimes, let's not resort to antisemitic attacks. Don't forget, the Israeli government doesn't represent all jews and there are Israeli human rights organisations, newspapers, and genocide scholars calling it out for what it is.
