In 2024, Donald Trump won the presidency with the support of 44% of Hispanic voters, suggesting that a major realignment in party preferences might be underway. But just two years later, it appears much of that support has eroded. Sixty-one percent of Hispanic voters say they will now support Democrats in the midterms, including 11% who previously had voted for President Trump. We get a bird’…

So he won with 44% support and its now dropped to 39%....

    That's still disheartening to see.

I'm genuinely shocked by this only being 61%. The Latinx community has been one of the most broadly impacted by the current administration.

I have friends who are US citizens who carry their passports with them because they are afraid ICE could show up to harass them at any moment. It's no joke, no one who presents as Latinx that I've met feels safe right now, and not feeling safe is easily the biggest vote motivator on the planet.

I don't know what kind of ignorant bliss the other 39% of Latinx voters are living in but from my experience that number is shockingly high.

It’s 61% because 98% of them reject things like the use of the word Latinx

Well, to speak to that, even though I think that they’ve been duped into voting conservative for this and other culture war issues, I still think that it is fundamentally disrespectful to utilize a demonym that is widely rejected by its people group.

Religion is a big part of it. Catholicism is still strong in really the entire global South, but especially South America. Religion has a funny way of turning people into single issue voters who only care about stuff like preventing abortion, hating trans people, or hating gays. It can even make the truly fanatical willing to cut off their own nose to spite their face.

44% to 39% seems extremely low, unless turnout is much higher by the 61%. Overall national shift is much higher than this 5% "headline"
