I recently came across Morphe, which seems to let users patch some apps to reduce ads and create separate app clones. Has anyone tried it? What are the benefits and security trade-offs? Which official sources do you recommend for learning about it?

The biggest problem with patched apps is that they are not free software. The patches themselves might be under a free license but applying a free patch to a proprietary program doesn't cause the entire program to become free.

However, these patched youtube apps are usually promoted as competition to actual free options such as NewPipe, in free software and open source communities. So they serve as attempts to pull FOSS users back into the proprietary world. On that basis I am generally against them and promote real FOSS where possible. NewPipe and its forks (not sure about other FOSS youtube options) also have the benefit of serving as PeerTube clients, so they can be helpful in moving off the youtube platform itself.

I use morphe to patch youtube app with their official patches to remove ads and get useful features and use adobo patches to remove internet permission from closed source apps which works fine without internet. adobo patches also gives options to remove ads, trackers, and analytics from apps.

You can learn more about it on their official website and this to find patches for lots of popular apps.
