Back in the day I recall finding lots of well curated and conveniently packaged ebook collections. Things like Goodreads choice 20XX, top 100 sci-fi of all time, etc. These days I know plenty of places generously providing individual books, but not where to find these nice collections. The ability to browse popular releases would also be nice. Ideally I would avoid needing to setup specialized tools, like readarr. But if something like its list feature simply blows away any other options I'd consider it; whatever gets the best results in the least time.

I'm on Bazzite, and personally use the IRC chat that comes as part of the KDE Plasma suit (dont remember the name, but you can get it in the Bazaar)

Dang, it had to be on reddit. Unfortunately, I don't have access.

    Thanks for posting!!

Pre edit: I don't turn my VPN off for anything or anyone. And I deleted my Reddit credentials on that fateful July a few years ago

yeah, i hate reddit too... fuckers block me like 99% of the time when im on vpn and just wanting to view contents w/o logging in. And unfortunately even https://fmhy.net/reading links to the reddit version

here's some guides already on dbzer0 (the pics are dead or a lie but it should still work):

    .

    .

    .

and if you hate reddit as much as I do, you can use alt front ends + the open-source redirector addon (linked to homepage but its on github and firefox/chrome addon sites too).

Some alt front end pages I had bookmarked:

basically, what I do is find a list of the instances for whichever front-end (any of them should be fine. but to give example, from the sr.ht list, I picked redlib then went to their instances list and tried a couple and picked one that had decent load times for me then used it to fill in the following details for a redirect in the addon):

addon settings (replace redlib.catsarch.com with your preferred instance):

Description: reddit to catsarch.com (US redlib instance) redirect
    Include Pattern: ^https?://(?:\w+\.)?reddit.com/(.*)$
    Pattern Type: regular expression
Pattern Description: keep the path from reddit but replace the domain
    Redirect to: https://redlib.catsarch.com/$1
    Example URL: https://www.reddit.com/r/books
    Example result: https://redlib.catsarch.com/r/books

note: if you actually login to reddit then my pattern might be too simplistic and could potentially break login when the rule is active... bc it would be trying to log you in on the frontend instead of reddit actual. i don't ever login there so never really tested it. but it works great if you just want to be able to read shit there without logging in

This is awesome and I had no idea it existed. But I'm not seeing how this offers better collections/discovery?

Your right. They do not offer collections. Sorry I didn't read properly 😔

  • same; i do vpn + irchighway

might pop over to irc right now actually

Listened to first book of an audiobook series and liked it... but the torrents i got on abb for books 2-4 haven't been able to find seeds in weeks so maybe i'll just get the ebooks. don't have a mam acct (no seedbox and currently shared living arrangements so my monthly datacap kinda sucks right now). tho i have been thinking about maybe picking up a usenet and/or debrid account if i can find a deal on black friday

I've found the best place lately are private bittorrent trackers. There's one ran by a so called anonymous rodent that works pretty well and has hundreds of collections.

Isn’t MAM specifically purging their collections soon? I just thought it was funny that you used MAM as the example, because they’re planning on removing their collections.

their collections as in their torrents containing more than one isbn.

not their entire library. they are just a special kinda librarian community

Sure, but OP was asking for curated collections, and the above commenter pointed at MAM as an example. And MAM is specifically purging their curated collections, so I thought it was funny that MAM was the go-to response.

aside from stuff like annas archive / libgen

in the past, i had ok luck using dht search sites like bt4g (org) but it was very hit and even more miss in terms of whether the torrent/magnet still had seeds. but that approach did have some collections like what you mentioned. and i did used to get the occasional valid collection mixed in among the dead torrents and other bs.

i havent really done it that way in a long time so not sure how well it works these days tho... like I searched a couple things similar to what you had in the OP and did get some small number of results (less than 1 page). some of those appeared valid but watch out cuz there were also some obvious malware ones that were like <title>.exe. Probably not the best way to do things for 2026+ ... and if you try it anyway, i highly recommend an adblocker, an up-to-date torrent client like qbittorrent, and maybe run a antivirus scan on the download when it gets done just to be safe.

could also check https://fmhy.net/reading but i suspect most of those are also going to be geared more towards individual books than collections. Only other things I can think of are usenet/debrid but I don't have experience w either so I couldn't say definitively.

If you do manage to find a good modern way to get collections, I'd also be interested to hear it.
