You're not wrong but...

A whole x86 SoC for reading a dial and controlling some RGB LEDs and a dot matrix display is ridiculous. Microcontrollers are IFAIK still as cheap as ever.

I wouldn't use a Pi for that either as this can all be done with a $5 ESP32
