If there's no difference why do they spend so much on one side?

If billionaires support your political candidate it is because that candidate represents their interests. You do not share interests with billionaires. There are no good billionaires, you cannot be a good person and become a billionaire. You have to constantly hurt people to be a billionaire and billionaires support candidates who perpetuate their ability to hurt people. Republicans strongly advocate for hurting people and not having to hide that they are hurting people. Many billionaires are tired of hiding that they like hurting people while some billionaires think that is bad optics. This is the main reason some of them support democrats. They think it is bad optics. That is all. Republicans having broader support from billionaires only reflects that some billionaires don't think they have any reason to be ashamed and that they want a portion of the working class to join in on hurting others.

If you remove America's biggest man baby, it's more or less a billion for each side in this graphic. ~1.2b to ~900m.

Musk's definitely a big player putting his thumb on the scale, buuut I'm pretty sure this graphic is missing primary spending, where corporate Democrats received a ton of AIPAC funding to beat progressive challengers, so...dk how much stock I'd put in that image. I also know for certain that it's missing the 633m of "dark" money that entered this election.

Well the fact that most on the blue side is prob AIPAC or billionaires funding their preferred choices, not anyone who happens to be on the democratic ticket does not change the basic argument. There's a lot of evil people investing a lot to manage things.
