Meir Ben-Shitrit was the main suspect in the gang rape of a Palestinian detainee at Sde Teiman prison. CCTV footage showed Israeli soldiers sexually assaulting the prisoner.
Instead of being treated as a criminal, Ben-Shitrit appeared on Channel 14, a right-wing Israeli TV channel. He was the star guest on a satire program. The hosts interviewed him for over ten minutes and showed sympathy for him. He told them that the military prosecution and the country should "kiss the hands" of soldiers doing a "sacred work."
He also said: "We could have loaded our weapons and killed them all on the floor." One host defended him, saying he would do the same. Later, in 2026, Israeli authorities dropped the charges against the soldiers. This shows a society that celebrates rapists and protects them from justice.
