Myeah. I got mine removed in my forties and regret it. They were not causing any issues. Everyone I know of my age still have them and are also pestered by their dentist to remove them.

I had one tooth to be extracted and my dentist just planned the extraction of my 4 wisdom tooth at the same time.

In the end they were not able to remove one of them because it needed a "specialist" so they left it there. It's beem years and it's still there, not causing issues. They don't mention it when I go to the dentist. Apparently they cannot extract more money from me so this one is not urgent.

I suffered for a few days, had to eat soft food for a week, stop smoking cannabis, took a day off work. I don't recommend going through this unless you really have to.

I feel like I've been had, and it didn't help my opinion of dentists.

That’s kinda weird because wisdom teeth are typically extracted by oral surgeons who are equipped with the “specialist” tools.

Crowding is one of the most common issues with wisdom teeth. IF you’re lucky and your wisdom teeth aren’t going to push out molars you’ll end up with an overcrowded mouth which can lead to distinct dental issues leading to losing all yer teeth.

Wisdom teeth should always be removed by an oral surgeon and you ought to be referred to one for X-rays and consult.

Don’t let this persons seemingly bad experience taint your opinion, imo.

I guess it depends on where you live, in my country oral surgeons only extract the ones a dentist can't. Basically, if a scalpel is needed to remove them, you go to the surgeon. Also, they are only extracted when (potentially) problematic, not always.

Technically wisdom teeth are inherently problematic even if they dont cause crowding. They are far more likely than other teeth to get cavities and rot out. I never got any of mine removed until one of them went bad. I grew the rest of my teeth when fluoride levels were higher, but they lowered the levels before I grew my wisdom teeth so they arent as strong

The one going bad was way worse than the surgery to get them removed. But yeah the diet and restrictions afterward was shitty. The actual procedure wasnt bad at all, other than finding out that ground-out tooth smells exactly like Fritos
