First round of voting I actually found a candidate I really liked, someone I would actually celebrate if they won but of course the rest of the country is not looking for the best candidate, they only care about electing the worst candidate for 'the other side'.

So here I am, waiting for the results knowing that if the candidate I picked wins I won't be happy, just relieved and if the other candidate wins, I need to fear for the future of our country.

I looked for an offmychest community but couldnt find it, I read the rules and I think politics is allowed here? Though really, Im not here to discuss politics, just lament the current state of affairs.

First of all, I haven't read that yet and don't know what policies or decisions they're basing that on, but Democrats love to talk big and then not actually do anything, so if it's just based on campaign promises and not actual voting history, then it's garbage data. But also, if you look at the numbers, even that site shows Democrats staying basically the exact same. It technically shows a negligible shift to the left, but it's basically 0. It's also +4 years old, which was a big difference in the political climate, and was before Kamala started courting republicans with her messaging. It was before the entire 2024 election season, and most democrats have moved way further right since Trump got elected again. It also states that Republicans have moved way to the right, while Democrats have stayed the same. So I'm not sure what you're basing your info on, but just a quick look at the Senate voting history shows Democrats are basically right-wing now. They've pretty much abandoned all pretense of even being centrist.

    didn't read article

Spews more dumb shit directly addresses by the article

Continues to insist that even though the article clearly shows a shift to the left, it really means Democrats are moving right because vibes

You're not the brightest bulb on the tree, are ya?

The shift to the left is negligible. You clearly have no capability for thinking for yourself or analyzing information so you rely on posting links you don't understand and personal attacks. Have a good life being a well tamed pet of the corporate Dem establishment. I'm sure there will be great things in your future, all accomplished by real well-meaning Democrat candidates.

So you're just gonna go straight from "The democrats are becoming right wing" to "Okay fine the democrats are moving left but I don't accept their progress to the left and so that's the same as moving right"

    And I'm the idiot?

Are you not going to acknowledge the fact that that was 4 years ago at all? Also that's based on an ideological 'average' of all party members. Common tactic in the Democrat party for decades has been to have a few very outspoken 'progressive' candidates, while the majority are much further right. And then you have the 'spoilers' like Manchin. Who consistently vote 'against' the rest of the members so the rest can look like they're really fighting the progressive fight, but they just always happen to lose by one or two votes. If you can't see the fucking pattern you are an idiot, and I'm done talking to you.

  • Yes, I see the pattern. I just showed you the pattern. Democrats are, as a whole, slowly but surely moving to the left.

Unless you have actual evidence that that pattern has changed in the last four years, besides 'trust me bro', I see no reason to believe it has changed.

Now, if you were to say "I wish the Democrats would move left faster", then you would have a point. Of course with your average slightly left of Democrats voter being too lazy to get off their ass and vote, or as they say "taking a principled stand against the system [by sitting quietly at home and not bothering anybody]", it makes perfect sense why Democrats would ignore the desires of those people who don't vote. I also think there's no need to listen to the political opinions of a nonvoter.
