My child is 6. I have them do 10-20 min of guided reading daily, meaning I sit with them and help where needed. They read mostly on their own though. I started because school was basically not teaching anything and giving half assed explanations why not.

How much do you do? Wondering if I'm an asshole parent ๐Ÿ˜…

For a 6 year old, 10-20 mins a day is great.

Make sure to explore different books at the library with them and let them pick to keep them excited about reading.

If you let them have screen time then watching shows like the reading rainbow can be helpful.

There are also some video and board games that are kid friendly that might encourage them to read that you might want to explore as well.

Not wordy, but all fantastic games to play with young kids:

    Mastermind
    Blokus
    Qwirkle
    Othello
    Lanterns
    Tsuro

For ones that are a little older/can read a bit:

Ticket to Ride (also teaches a bit of geography)
    Castle Panic
    King of Tokyo/New York
    Flip Ships
