Is yeast actually a problem for vegans?

No, only because they ignore the fact they're elitist, speciesist bastards. If honey isn't vegan, then yeast ought not to be.

Isn't yeast kind of it's own thing, kinda halfway between bacteria and fungi? Honey is very clearly an animal byproduct.

Honey is produced by a kind of farming of bees, an animal. Yeast just kinda is and grows

There is both wild and cultivated yeast.

As an elitist, speciest bastard, yeast aren't an animal product. Veganism is about animal cruelty. If you want to start a new fungal rights movement, be my guest.

some people become vegan over animal cruelty. i know vegans who have that diet because they think it will help them recover from overexercise better and some who got bit by ticks. i'm sure people have more reasons than these three.

And that's why I admire the Jain monks of India - those actually abstain of everything that implies harming a living being, and with that I mean EVERYTHING. They don't eat tubers as to not kill plants, don't consume water unless it's filtered to remove bacteria, don't turn fires on during the night to avoid killing insects, and a long long list of restrictions that make vegans look like hypocrites.
