The powerplay is an unfortunate fallout from porn. If you go look up the kinky instructional videos from the 80s and 90s and sort of the 2000s, you'll find a lot of quality videos from porn stars or porn adjacent folks talking about various stuff. The oral sex ones are often really good about talking through more than just the act, and one of the things they emphasize is that a blow job doesn't 'involve' the male. The male should be there, obviously, but his hands should stay away from the head of the giving party.

Sure, that's not a dictum from god for how fellatio should be done, no one is saying the more aggressive head-forcing is bad per se (personally, I like him holding me down until I get to the point where I'm desperate for air, but not fighting to get off the cock/dildo), but its emphasis over and over should be a good idea of what real people think/thought about sexual acts for a long time.
