Ah, okay, I see the Agatha Christie and Jane Austin references now. I'm not too surprised I didn't get them as I'm not all that well-read and they're kinda out of my wheelhouse.

Now that I know that was Stephen King, I feel silly not having put it together.

I've had very little interaction with Roald Dahl's works, I'm finding out. I've seen all three Wonka films (the 1971 Gene Wilder film the only one worth remembering IMO) but that's about it.

And about "Ol' Billy Shakes": I've heard that name tossed around some because of how Shakespeare's plays were meant for the common people, rather than be the stuffy high-brow entertainment it's been held up to in more modern times.

I have read a lot of Austin, but i don't think I would have gotten it. But I also don't know how else they could have show from her. It is pretty much fancy houses and pictures of people.

They made 3 different options for King. You could choose between two different versions of IT and John Coffey. And I have a passionate hate for IT, but The Green Mile is one of the best books I ever read.

The wonka movies are also my only interaction with Dahl, but are there 3?? I only know about the Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp movies.

Ahh that makes sense. It is a shame that more people don't read him. But if you are not used to plays and the prose it is hard to understand what's going on. I had read a lot of old classics before I tried Old Shakies complete works, and i think I had to read around 10 before I was able to actually understand what was going on.

Yeah there was a musical (just titled Wonka) released a few years ago. Probably completely original story b/c it follows Willie Wonka's first arrival in... I guess London? and the misadventures of making his own chocolates. Lots of CGI, okay tunes, kind of a turn-your-brain-off movie, doesn't really step on the other films' toes.

I've had to purposefully expose myself to Shakespeare's plays b/c I was home schooled until college and never covered any of it for schoolwork. In one sense I was lucky because I've been able to come into them without them being "work" so to speak, tho yeah I have had to find "translations" (the No Fear Shakespeare from Sparknotes is good for having the original and modern English side-by-side) for the ones I've read in order to better understand them. So far Hamlet is my absolute fave.

(Also I'll admit I had to nope out of Romeo & Juliet early because it seemingly starts with a "the power of boners compels you" plot.)

Then I is very awesome that you chose to expose yourself to him!

The Merry wifes of Windsor if my favorite. But then again, there is a lot i have to reread, so I'm sure i actually understand them.

Ohh don't get me started on Romeo and Juliet! How on earth anybody think that is in anyway romantic and a love to strive for us beyound me!

Eh, I kinda get it from a telescopic point of view -- to quote A Tale of Two Cities which I'm listening to for the first time right now,

In this respect the House was much on a par with the Country; which did very often disinherit its sons for suggesting improvements in laws and customs that had long been highly objectionable, but were only the more respectable.

So like, I get the appeal of the star-crossed lovers held apart by little more than TRADITIOOOON!!! and getting together in spite of that. By my impressions, half the play is saying "look what we're doing to our children", it's just that the other half is nudging and winking at the audience going "kids, am I right?" and it makes the main characters kind of insufferable as a result.
