It's because people get on their phones and don't actually watch it.

I understand if its a comfort show you have seen before that you put on for background noise but no dude they will do it with a brand new show some that they even want to actually watch and they just can't bring themselves to actually set the phone down and do it.

Then they have the nerve to ask you what's going on.
