Kovarex, the maker of Factorio, is a reactionary anti-leftist. He exposed himself on reddit and has since edited or deleted his comments. Here's a thread about it with links to the original incident. https://www.reddit.com/r/GamerGhazi/comments/o34v6h/factorio_founder_rages_about_cancel_culture_after/

Kinda burying the lede to criticize his political position when he apparently supports statutory rape.

Say my friend made such a statement in the past and somehow.managed to grow as a person.

What should they do to communicate this?

I assume deleting the original statement is perceived as dishonesty, yes?

kovarex's response was thus: "Take the cancel culture mentaility and shove it up your ass."

Sounds kinda based. Vaguely remember that, FFF about software development and then people start complaining about politics.

Not wanting to support shitty people is fucking common sense, not a "mentality."

  • True, but after the incident happened it seemed as though some people did everything in their power to make it look like a mentality to him (i.e. combing through his past posts to see if he himself said anything yikes to prove to everyone how shitty he is). The "shove it up your ass" comment is enough to point to, so pointing to the (now deleted, might I add) statutory rape comment feels more like having a hate boner for the guy and that your goal is to moreso make you hate him as much as you rather than just the plain 'don't buy the game from this guy, he's a reactionary'.

Talking about software development is shitty people?

There are shitty people in software development. I can't believe someone has to tell you this.

Has kovarex really done anything that bad? This seems like a stupidly high standard. Like you can't have ever said anything bad and if someone digs up a thing you said ages ago your are now outcast and anything you ever make must be banned. Fuck that.

He got his shit pushed in by militant fascism wearing the flayed skin of communism, and now he blames the left for everything wrong with his world like he's possessed by the ghost of Ayn Rand.

But sure, call it based like you were born yesterday.

When did kovarex do any of that? I just see a couple of out of context now deleted posts and conclusions drawn from them. Hardly militant fascist.

As someone who has read the linked thread: it would be helpful, even for me, if you included a quote that shows he blames the left for everything wrong. I think you're referring to (link):

There is obviously a big difference in historical experience. In Czech Republic, we had naciz occupying us, then the communism followed by 20 years of occupation of USSR. We have a very close experience with censorship, propaganda and totalitarian regime. There was a lot of deplatforming going on, when people would go to prison or would be executed because they listened to the wrong radio station. [...]

but I'm not sure because here he seems to blame fascism too here. Do you have a better quote that I didn't see?

He's literally equating militant fascism with the culture that seeks to deplatform the kind of people that support fascism. Hope that clears it up for you.

  • In the quote I showed he's equating the censorship/authoritarianism of nazi germany to that of the USSR. Of the comments he has made, I actually find that apt. Your interpretation only makes sense if you're equating the USSR with leftism generally which says as much about you as it does him.

I understand boycotting the game because of uncouth comments of its creator, especially when it comes to women's rights / sexual assault / etc., but please be honest that's the reason if it truly is why. I am at least not convinced he's a fascist based purely on what I've seen him say.

If your source for something is ever that sub Reddit, you should probably take a moment to re-evaluate things

Good to know that his "crime" was opposing censorship in some undisclosed context.

People talk about it like if he actually harms people.
