"Trumpists" is despective, use "Trump supporters" (lemmy.world)

OK. I explain.

In other language, I use freely: "peronista", "izquierdista", "derechista"... It means simply someone supporting certain ideas or movement. See, it looks really similar:

trumpista - trumpist

But... "a friend"... said that "trumpist" is peyorative, despective, like cultists, sectarian group. And I should use "trump supporters".

Dude, I've been reading in English for years and I still sound like a damn 3yo when I try to communicate.

Trumpist fits, because Trumpism is a cult. If your friend thinks being called a "Trumpist" is pejorative, then maybe they need to rethink their support for a cult leader.
