From my understanding: topics are a collection of communities, allowing you to see all their posts in one feed, right? In my instance, I can't create a topic, only if I'm already in one? It feels a little confusing. Any advice?

It appears you don't get the 'My Feeds' or any of the feeds options until you actually subscribe to a feed in the first place. I'll bring it up with the devs, as I don't know if that's working as intended.
