Communities have no borders yet organically happen. Nations are just big communities. Borders happened because of the community, not the other way around - but it's true that now the border dictates community.

Trump would happen anyway, bit he'd be able to do a lot more damage if no real borders were set.

Keep the borders, but keep them always open so people can cross them - use them only as a restriction to one's community overreach.
