Oh no, Percy channeling his inner carpet-madness, classic! 😹
That spot must feel like the ultimate claw-stress outlet, but a torn carpet is no fun for either of you. A few ideas to save your floors (and your nerves):
Offer irresistible scratchers: Place a sturdy sisal post or corrugated cardboard pad (it is usually irrestible. Some cats will just ignore it.)right next to Percy’s “favorite” hole. Rub a bit of catnip on it to lure him away.
Protect the victim: Temporarily cover that patch with a carpet runner or double-sided tape, cats hate the sticky feel.
Redirect the energy: Before you leave the house, give Percy a vigorous play session, laser pointers or feather wands, so he’s more likely to nap than wreak havoc.
Satisfy the urge: Some cats claw to stretch and mark territory. Consider adding a horizontal scratching board if he prefers clawing flat surfaces.
When I hit a rough patch, I swapped in a funky-patterned runner for a month, no more attacks on the carpet, and Percy learned to use his new scratcher.
