Ian Fleming was wealthy even before he wrote. He came from bankers and parliament members. His wife I believe came from considerable wealth too. He wrote Bond partially as an outlet for his libido so he'd stop cheating on his wife while also wanting to add income for his wealthy wife.

Willing to bet he wasn't doing chores or worried about responsibility while writing in his large custom island estate.

When I did nanowrimo once eons ago, I held myself to a daily word count. I found it motivating at times but also stressful, especially when I couldn't come up with something good. I find the idea appealing but idk if it works for me.

It was actually the first book I read by him and because I have a bit of an aversion to horror, it got me hooked. It's basically magical in how well it grips you from the first page, I'd say he's actually refined the writing more than many of his fiction works - perhaps had a more sober and clear head. Writers should keep it on hand for when they need motivation to write because that was my main takeaway from it - you are imbued with a desire to write more

His book "On Writing" is so good. It's obviously also trauma and just a keenness (is that a word?) towards the beauty and variability of life; don't dismiss life as something boring, predictable, or not worth it, and then you can write well

Just watched Stand By Me for the first time in probably 30 years, a few days ago.

Not one of his most obvious fucked up books\movies, but one that still totally wouldn't get made today. A group of 12 year old boys sneaking off to go find a dead body of a child while playing with guns and smoking and cussing and such.
