Agreed 100%.

I'm exiting software engineering at work (I requested a position in sales). That's because I have no purpose anymore: the coding skills I've honed since the 80's have been brutally deprecated, and I'm not interested in asking a machine to do my work. It's demeaning, and when other people meat-proxy AI shit my way and ask me to work on it, I find it highly insulting.

So I'm out. But I can tell you, the other engineers who are left all look extremely depressed, and I know for a fact that a few have chit-chatted with my boss like I did, and told him they really weren't happy being LLM jockeys and clicking OK all day long - but stopped short of damning it all to hell and actually transitioning like I'm doing.

The only ones who seem happy are the few engineers whom I considered not very competent before AI came about: all of the sudden, they have the impression that they're better (they're not of course, just faster at cranking out mediocre code).
