The brand is very good, but the tagline is incredible

The club said its tagline, "let them howl," is drawn from a quote from suffragist Nellie McClung, who led the movement to get women in Manitoba the right to vote. The full quote attributed to her was "Never retract, never explain, never apologize; get the thing done and let them howl."

Someone get her a backpack because she’s carrying this team

The honour comes after the 25-year-old forward from Montreal won the Golden Boot with a league-leading 13 goals over 25 regular-season games.

Losing 3-0 at home to start the playoffs means this is probably it for us this season

The Roses opened their two-leg semifinal series — and pursuit of the Diana B. Matheson Cup — with a convincing 3-0 win over the Vancouver Rise at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, B.C.

De Filipino has been on fire and might just put the team on her back and carry the Rise to the final on her own

    Vancouver Rise

The Vancouver Rise had to wait until the final seconds of the NSL season to earn their spot in the NSL Playoffs. After Halifax was unable to beat Toronto and settled for a tie, Vancouver, who are the reigning champions, locked into the final playoff spot. The Rise had a rough start to the season, not getting a win until the fourth game of the season. It’s been a year of ups and downs, but, as fans saw last season, once the Rise are in the playoffs, anything can happen. The Rise only have three wins against playoff teams this season, and have only tied against their first-round opponent, the Montréal Roses.

    Crisse de câlice de tabarnak

The home side kept pushing. Substitute Naya Cardoza won possession before Julianne Vallerand played the ball to Tiffany Cameron. The forward chipped the goalkeeper to complete the comeback and make it 2-2.

It's been a bit of a roller coaster

The Rise captured the first-ever NSL championship title last season, and are in a fight to secure the league's final playoff berth this season with an 8-win, 11-loss and 4-draw record.

    Tough for Jordyn

Jordyn Huitema is unavailable for the Denmark series through injury. Canada has lost a forward who can occupy defenders physically, attack crosses and give the team a presence inside the box.

A convincing win for my Rise

The rest was about control. The Rise kept Ottawa at arm’s length and secured a convincing 4–0 clean sheet. The result also sends Vancouver above Halifax and into fourth place.

    At the death!

Vancouver spent the second half chasing the game and eventually their persistence paid off when De Filippo was subbed on. With 30 seconds left on the clock, it seemed like Calgary would be walking away with the win. Then, Reyes floated a ball in and Jess De Filippo rose to head it home in the 95th minute.

    Vancouver 💪💪💪

For De Filippo, it was a two-goal performance and a move into first place running for the Golden Boot. For Vancouver, it was another reminder that matches can change in a single moment.

Good for Calgary, but did it have to be against Vancouver?

After 14 consecutive regular-season defeats, Calgary finally had their first win of the season. It was also their first victory over Vancouver in 2026, making an already memorable week even bigger.

I look forward to the day when the NSL is on the same level as Liga BBVA or NWSL, but the path to that runs through a lot of these kinds of deals

More players may look at Canada differently. Clubs overseas start watching NSL games differently. Canadian players may start viewing the NSL not as an alternative to playing abroad, but as another legitimate step toward getting there. That is the opportunity in front of the league.

Foster-Inman’s move is historic because she’s the first. The real measure of its impact will be whether she eventually becomes the first of many.

Love to see a Reign alumna doing well

    Elyse Bennett (Montréal Roses FC)

    The Difference Maker

Montréal have become one of the league’s most balanced teams, and Elyse Bennett has been a major reason why. Her seven goals place her second in the Golden Boot race, but her impact reaches far beyond the scoresheet. Bennett has given the Roses a different dimension in attack, one that has made them far less predictable than they were a year ago.

I’m gals Elyse is setting in well — she always seemed to me an uneasy fit at the Reign; she seems to have a temperament well suited to being a star for her team. Also good to see Themporer Quinn is still a standout leader:

For Quinn, Vancouver’s captain and midfield engine, Saturday’s result is no need to panic, even though it came after a loss to AFC Toronto in the season-opener. “It’s a long season. I think there’s still a lot of nerves coming into this. We have some new players, and so I think we’re still creating a cohesive team,” they said. “I don’t think it’s much different from last season. We had a bit of a rocky start, but that’s not to say that’s how the season needs to finish. It’s really early for us. … And we’re going to continue to build, hopefully peaking at the right time.”
