Yeah maybe. I posted on main because this is where every Canadian (and those who simply prefer the lemmy.ca instance) come to by default.

Lemmy brings in people with a reason for being here, and many which may be political.

Admins are free to remove it themselves or ask me to delete at their discretion, of course!!

Provincial are probably the most important, by far. Especially given that cities are creatures of the province (only in Ontario?), so the province can override whatever the hell they want in municipal gov'ts.

    Addendum:

Accessibility is not an excuse for not voting.

Living abroad is not an excuse for not voting.

Not caring or knowing who to choose or being confused is not an excuse for not voting.

Having work is not an excuse for not voting.

Going to prison is not an excuse for not voting.

Lacking standard ID or wanting to cover your face is not an excuse for not voting.

If you are on Lemmy right now and you are a Canadian citizen, you have no excuse.

Being under the age of 18 is a valid reason to not vote, but consider educating yourself now so you can better shape the future for yourself and your peers. Think of how awesome it would be to live in a country that you helped shape, and that you're proud of!

If you have the need, rather than the website, you can also check how accessible any polling station is by calling 1-800-463-6868 or 1-800-361-8935 (TTY).

You should follow Canadian law. You should follow rules of lemmy.ca and piefed.ca.

You can contact your MP and take up activism.

    You can also protest legally.

You can also write things which are legal and happen to lead to other less traceable sources where God-knows-what happens.

If you choose to disobey the law, that's bad. If many choose to disobey the law, that's bad and maybe the government will be forced to change it.

There are lots of ways for us to follow the law. We all love Bill C-22 right? I think it's worth showing them how much we love it.

Edit: for real, email your MP right now, it takes 5 minutes. Use your own words, you don't need a template. Be courteous and professional when emailing an MP. If they aren't in support, you can make it clear in any follow up communications about how you feel. You can decimate somebody with kind but strong words, so keep that in mind. AT THE START OF YOUR EMAIL INCLUDE YOUR FULL NAME, AND FULL ADDRESS WITH POSTAL CODE. STATE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE A RESPONSE, OTHERWISE THEY CAN ESSENTIALLY IGNORE IT

Yes you're likely to get a staff member who gets these emails all day, but responding to them still takes some modicum of effort. Even if they're essentially discarded individually, if enough come in, they will at some point have a professional responsibility to mention it to their MP. Also, workplace gossip exists everywhere. You pay this person with a portion of your tax dollars with the purpose of representing your electoral district, don't forget that .

Of course. I'm not suggesting they break the law.

I'd like to start the convention of also providing .onion addresses, because there's a good chance these stupid laws are going to become more and more common.

I doubt it would make any legal difference as long as there's an identifiable Canadian nonprofit operating the sites. They can still be prosecuted if they don't obey the new law and retain the logs.

I suppose if the .onion sites were entirely independent and unconnected to the existing sites it might not be evident that they're run by the same nonprofit, but to do that untraceably is not straightforward.

My ideas and motivation to act on them each come on their own schedule. This was fun to put together, but we'll see, perhaps another challenge each year but with some new twist. It also depends on what our priorities and goals are as a collective of federated instances at any given point in time, that could be spurred on with a community activity.

I'm glad multiple people gave it at an honest effort, let alone anyone completing the challenge. So thanks again.

I messaged 10 users who had commented in the threads indicating they were trying the challenge, but yes, you two are the only ones who wrote they were done on the threads I posted. If anyone made their own post to describe their progress or celebrate their own achievement, I haven't seen it.
