It would be hard to measure it's power over time like other entities, but Trump is probably the presidential embodiment of the idea of 'US paramouncy' over everyone and I think there are a lot of desperate moves being made to ensure US supremacy at least over as much of the world, particularly the west, with the rise of China and some nations to flock to her orbit instead

Great question - I was wondering about this a week or so when there was a few news articles saying China's reserves were high, when I'd previously heard from a source I trust that a big reason the gas prices hadn't been worse was that China was running it's stocks down and they were at about 25% of 2025 levels. I have a vague feeling that China agreed to publishing them a few years back, but don't know where. EIA used to be a trusted source, and there's this - Oil and Gas journal (paywalled).

How about this, fuck both America and Russia? America still has some independent journalists whereas Russia is almost 100% captured. Just because it's RT doesn't automatically mean it's wrong, but it does mean it's going to have a heavy spin to prop up a brutal Russian regime.

The article assumes way too much intelligence and deliberate agency from the US government to a degree that resembles sanewashing.

To quote All the President's Men:

Forget the myths the media's created about the White House. The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

And just as denying China access to US-made semiconductors led directly to an unprecedented Chinese investment in semiconductor manufacture, which has now led to them being the world leader, limiting (they couldn't deny it completely since Iran started only selectively blocking Strait of Hormuz passage for US and US-allied ships, which led to the US blockade of their blockade) Chinese access to oil has led to an increase in their already unprecedented investment in alternative energy, which has further solidified their position as world leader in that too.

So to paraphrase the well-known analogy, it's as if it's the early 1900s and the US has "strategically" chosen to combat China's growing economic power by trying to lock them out of the world supply of buggy whips.

(edit to add: and moving to protect the US "buggywhipdollar.")

    Also,

“almost two million people from the former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation reside in Israel. It is almost a Russian-speaking country today. And, undoubtedly, we always take this into account in Russia’s contemporary history”.

    • Putler is quite fond of Israel's 3rd most spoken language being Russian

What a lot of people also ignore, is that Israel and Russia are actually relatively close given the general relationship between Russia and the West. Not exactly allies, but Israel did not even sanction Russia after the full scale invasion and refuses to sell or even allow the transfer of weapons to Ukraine. They also cooperated in Syria and there are a lot of Russians living in Israel, including many oligarchs. Putin tends to say that he supports Palestinians, but he is very willing to sell oil to Israel. Also no sanctions or anything, so this is just rethoric from Putin.

    Oh, just remembered..

You may want to use Solnit's identifying of how Kremlin-entangled Trump's people are https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/mar/02/time-to-confront-trump-putin-network

& the evidence that he's been a Kremlin investment for decades..

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jan/29/trump-russia-asset-claims-former-kgb-spy-new-book

AND how the Epstein files indicate that Epstein was working for the CIA, Mossad, AND the Kremlin, which is why he was untouchable, until he needed to be cord-strangled by "nobody".

There's a yt channel, Michael Franzese, a former mafia man, iirc the video has Epstein as a marionette, with a big dark hand being the puppetmaster above, as its thumbnail?

good grief he's got alot of videos on Epstein: that guy must really have got his goat!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nZPkD-ncqc is I think the one..

the FBI was ordered to back-off, because Epstein was an intelligence asset, which is why he was allowed "slap on the wrist" sentencing with 12h/day free-pass when the FBI wanted him put away..

But if they're all in the Epstein files, then that is relevant, too..

Trump's complaining about the "deep state" is gaslighting: HE is the evil deep-state, with Putin, Netanyahu, Epstein, & others all working together to murder uprightness from ruling our world..

The evidence is clear, but the pseudojournalism doing everything it can to push incredulousness at the actual-evidence, to push normalizing the gaslighting & calling-into-question the truth, it's sickening..

    Whatever, enough.

I just want the "points & edges" of all such things as the usefully-terse work you did, to cut evil as deeply as it can, without making your life be under threat.

You are putting in a single image the points that I've been relying-on & mentioning for awhile.

I can see why ideologues would be downvoting you/this..

    It's accurate.

The 1 thing that you didn't mention, & that's probably best for you, is that there are 3 categories-of-game:

    • Positive-Sum Game - Win-Win Alliance
    • Zero-Sum Game - Competitive-Narcissism
    • Negative-Sum Game - Competitive-Nihilism

& that Putin & Netanyahu, as mass-shooters do, are definitely playing competitive-nihilism with competitive-narcissism in the mix, but the greater the destruction, the "higher their score".

    Trump's playing the same game.

So long as nobody equals his career-destruction-of-the-ones-opposed-to-his-kingdom ( throughout the next few years ), then he's "won".

The de-naturalize-all-who-he-wants-to-ICE law he's sitting-on, waiting until he's got dictatorship ( then he can make everybody who isn't MAGA into "illegals", through already-ready law ), & the incinerators that he'll be having built at all the ICE plants, will be his domestic eradication program..

..but he'll be conscripting everybody he can for his wars-of-conquest, from annexing Canada & Greenland, for his "Greater North America" "manifest destiny", to rampaging on Central & South America, for imperial-expansion, or at least destroying intolerable-autonomy from his part of the world..

Yes, they're of the same basic nature, & they're playing the same category-of-game as their primary game.

The diff is that Trump's still progressing to his crystallization, whereas both Putin & Netanyahu have already got to theirs.

Millei's seeming to be willingly following in their footsteps? ( seriously: voting against the UN resolution on slavery?? )

Orban, too.. ( I don't bet 2-cents on the competitor being allowed to win the Hungarian election: Orban'll break that potential ANY way he can, to retain power. I hope the new guy wins, .. but the left has usually been too soft, lately, like the Democrats' "electing" of Harris.. mind you, her being a hard-line Netanyahu-backer sure as hell didn't help, but coasting on assumed-victory COSTS, & the left doing the same accommodating in Millei's 2nd election.. why protest, if you wouldn't vote against?? whatever )

I'm thanking you for the work you put into this..

Concise is a good thing, sometimes.

Why the hell do people keep presuming that the mental-health crisis is local-only-to-them??

    Narcissism!

    It's global.

Feudalism, whether corporate, oligarchic, or monarchic, is destructive!

    Idiocy.

Here's a summary of the European crises since 2009:

    • 2008–2009: Great Recession Global financial crisis triggers EU-wide recession, banking collapses, and rising public debt.

    • 2009–2018: Eurozone Sovereign Debt Crisis Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Italy, and Spain face unsustainable debt, requiring bailouts and austerity. Social unrest and political instability follow.

    • 2015–2016: Migration Crisis Over 1 million refugees/migrants arrive, straining borders and fueling far-right politics.

    • 2016–2020: Brexit UK votes to leave the EU, causing economic uncertainty, trade disruptions, and political fragmentation.

    • 2020–2022: COVID-19 Pandemic Severe recession, lockdowns, and EU recovery funds. Accelerates digital and green transitions.

    • 2021–2024: Inflation and Cost-of-Living Crisis Post-pandemic demand, supply chain issues, and Ukraine war drive inflation to 10%+ in some countries.

    • 2022–Present: Russia-Ukraine War Russia’s invasion disrupts energy supplies, sparks refugee surge, and forces EU to boost defense spending and reduce reliance on Russian gas.

    • 2018–Present: U.S. Tariffs and Aggressions Trade wars (steel, aluminum, tech tariffs) and geopolitical pressures (e.g., Greenland crisis, NATO disputes) strain transatlantic relations.

    • Ongoing: Climate Crisis Extreme weather, green transition policies, and political tensions over climate action (e.g., farmer protests).

I believe Israel will start launching "tactical" nuclear weapons within the next month, once they realize their conventional munitions can't be sustained.

I hope that Iran choking off the Strait of Hormuz will usher in a new era of domestic renewable energy for all nations involved, since it really does highlight that fossil fuels are a national security threat.

  • [–] 2 points 7 months ago

You know, if you re-read, neither I nor the author suggest we didn’t expect Iran to deploy horizontal engagement, the entire article is devoted to explaining how a horizontal strategic response differs from conventional warfare as seen from a major power point of view, and it gives some specific examples, even pointing out that NATO is well aware of the strategy and managed it in the Balkans.

So to be clear, I don’t fundamentally disagree with your point of view, but am confused about why you are so confidently and incorrectly accusing everyone but Trump and fash-genpop of idiocy.

So show me where they touched you the author is genuinely surprised that Iran deployed a strategy that is the core theme of the article, and I’ll endorse your chin-spittle literary contempt.

    Reading comprehension failure plus insults.

No one is surprised Iran is attacking bases, including the author, so WTF are you on about? The interest in the article is because it's more than bases being attacked, read again, and tone down the contempt.
