Naturally. Financialization only cares about extracting profits. Scarcity and precarity are very good at driving this.

Policy has allowed this disease to spread everywhere, hence the housing crisis, education crisis, energy crisis, food crisis and pretty much all the others.

A vampiric system will bleed the host dead.

Fair enough, this felt like a good microcosm of the absurd bureaucratic contradictions that typify "collapse of the old society". I didn't mean to share this as an indicator of some sudden severe existential collapse but rather as an indicator of what it looks like in the everyday, localized picture to experience a collapse of the old society.

You either have to believe nothing in the universe ever makes sense, or that you are living in an inherently absurd system that cannot sustain itself.

I'm not quite sure this is the right sub. While the building itself sounds like it may be in danger of collapse, it does sound like garden variety mismanagement instead of being related to the polycrisis and civilizational issues.

Authoritarians are using the same playbook globally.

How are they going to react when there is global famine caused by climate change? I suspect the people will rise up like the French during the revolution, but by then it will be too late and billions will have died of starvation.

Same playbook, everywhere on the globe.

Elites have an advantage when it comes to global cooperation since they have more resources and more class consciousness, but we'll catch up eventually.

Democracies have always brutalized the vulnerable to extract wealth and have hierarchical abuse - non-citizens, minorities, migrants, lower class workers, women, etc. The difference between liberalism and fascism is whether the in-group is expanding or shrinking.

When black people are murdered by cops and enslaved for self-medicating their anxiety, it is called the high point of liberal democracy we wish to return to. There was progress, after all.

But now white people are murdered by cops, and so the sky is falling.

It is, of course. But if you want a world without an "Epstein class", without greedy parasites, without racist exploitation, then we should not return to liberal democracy. We have to structurally abolish the hierarchies that allow there to be powerful people above scrutiny, and we should recognize no boundary of privilege like citizenship.

Corporate, private interests are the exact opposite form of power to democracy. We cannot keep democracy and allow private wealth holders to maintain their individual influence. Anywhere private power concentrates is a threat to the group power that democracy is. Individual power is the most personal self-interest, the cruel, the narcissistic, the psychopath, the sociopath, these are the biggest threats to everyone else and are the root manifestation of power concentration and democratic dissolution. Corporate power and business power must be brought to heel or the loss of democracy is inevitable. There are no democratic corporations.

Ah yes, its EuroCentric imperialism to want to preserve the environment and the sovereignty of indigenous people that live there.

Trying to stop power from being consolidated into a single corrupt individual who threatens other countries, implements rightwing, religious, and authoritarian policies is just the imperialists attempting to hold power. We need a führer general secretary president like that who will usher in real democracy.

It's not democracy that's in retreat, it's the EuroCentric imperialist system in retreat because it is losing on nearly every dimension. And when the imperialists start losing, they lean hard into liberal power structures and abandon abstract liberal values, which the privileged members of those societies read as fascism. In actuality the control structures liberal societies apply to its oppressed members are the same as the ones they apply to privileged members when they are in retreat.

    You want democracy? Overthrow liberalism.

No! Everybody is about to have a come to jesus moment when the singularity comes which is definitely just around the corner! We are SO confident in this we all picked up smoking cigarettes!

We are nothing like other cults centered around a day of holy salvation myth that never comes no matter how much resources and mental space we devote to it!
