Apple is deeply embedded in Israel, says Tariq Ra'ouf, a Palestinian writer who worked for more than a decade in Apple retail before he was fired in 2024 for speaking out against the company's silence on Gaza. He joins Rania Khalek and Zoe Alexandra to break down Apple's ties to Tel Aviv, including its extensive R&D centers in Israel and its $2 billion purchase of an AI startup founded by Unit 8200 veterans. He also explains the systemic discipline faced by pro-Palestine Apple workers — fired for wearing keffiyehs while the company matched employee donations to Friends of the IDF — and warns that having Israeli military intelligence veterans integrated into the supply chain of the world's most popular devices should terrify every consumer.

Ra'ouf also lays out how the minerals in your iPhone connect the company to genocide in Congo, why organizers are calling for pickets at Apple stores on launch day – and how customers and workers can and should get involved.

every App Store search is logged letter-by-letter, with millisecond timestamps. Apple can compute your typing speed.

every search you type, timed to the millisecond, stored to your account

An IEEE S&P 2026 Distinguished Paper audited Apple's differential privacy. 5 of 9 mechanisms violate their own guarantees; ~87% of macOS data collection affected.

your typing stats + Safari domains leave your device daily, "anonymized" by a shield that's proven broken. No real protection.

Hey, folks,

My laptop broke the other day, and I need a replacement asap. But here's the rub: I despise windows. I've been a full time fedora user on my main device for a decade now, and I run Ubuntu on my desktop that I rarely touch because it's ooooold. I am not a techy person. At all. I'm an idiot, actually. I use Linux because it's cheaper, it keeps my aging hardware alive longer, and because politically I align pretty well with the idea of FOSS. And because I absolutely hate windows. I don't even like KDE, because it reminds me of windows. Cinnamon? Too much like windows! Lol. I love my workflow in gnome, I love that it's shiny and pretty and looks nice. And for the most part, I'm a browser based user. I rarely have cause to do much outside of the browser, except for sail the seas for some audiobooks. Even my papers for school are written in Google docs.

But also, on my desktop or a secondary device, I don't mind having to fiddle with things and get them working, I enjoy it. It makes me feel like I have actual tech skills when I absolutely do not. But on the device I use for school I just want something that works and I never have to think about. I feel like a traitor to the cause even considering it, but I think I want to get a used m1 air. I've never used a Mac before, though. I used an iPhone once, for about 10-15 minutes, and I hated it. But, like, of course I did. It was completely different, and incapable of doing the thing I wanted it to do.

How painful is the Linux to Mac transition? If I'm using an android phone, an Ubuntu desktop, and a MacBook, how awful is everything going to be to switch between devices? Am I going to regret this purchase, or, worse yet, become an apple fan boy and abandon my glorious FOSS devices forever?

Please assist

I have the thing and it still works. I want to make a backup of my music for my computer. Is there a way to export the music from my iPod and keep it on an external drive?

Apple released updates for all iOS devices back to the iPhone 5s, that phone is more than 12 years old and is still getting security updates.

I’m on the iPhone X and trying to buy European for my next phone, especially with Tim Apple sucking up to Trump, but 12 years of security updates is impressive commitment.

Eyes Up's purpose is to "preserve evidence until it can be used in court." But it has been swept up in Apple's attack on ICE-spotting apps.

The fact that there is no fast way to split screen anymore and that slideOver is missing completely makes my iPad 11" nearly unusable for productivity tasks.

I waste so much time organising windows that then mostly have to be in split, because touch UI takes space..

It is infuriating and disappointing

Be sure that you really want this new mostly useless window system (on 11”) before updating!

It may be useful on the bog boy, who knows…

PSA: It is important to read all the software update buttons. Even if you ignore the first big Tahoe ad (same will apply to pads and phones), and just choose to "update", the upgrade to Tahoe is checked by default and the button will read "Upgrade".

This disingenuous practice which Apple has been practicing for years now, has resulted in many non-consentual OS upgrade.

The roll back process, especially without proper backup can be next to impossible, and the Liquid Glass UI roll out is just latest in failures of a company that false advertised AI, lies in court and dines with dictators and gifts them gold.

On a conspiratorial side note, this company is now fully Fourth Reich compliant, so careful installing anything new that might open up new backdoors.

I’m tired of the default keyboard. Swiftkey and Gboard do not work well for me. I was wondering if there was an open source keyboard (without jail breaking) that I could use.

Hello,

I am trying to help my girlfriend backup her iPhone and Macbook.

I am a bit unfamiliar with the Apple ecosystem, and she's still not very familiar with the technical aspects of it.

With my android and PC, it seems a bit more straightforward. Certain programs or services will backup everything, and I can restore it all exactly as it was at that time.

But the Apple webpage for iCloud Backup lists a bunch of things it backs up, meaning, it doesn't backup everything?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to make backups of her phone and laptop so she can restore them exactly as they were when each backup was made.

Do iPhones and Macs have this type of option? Backing up everything, like taking an image of them at that point, including all apps, all files, all settings, every little thing, and then using that to restore them at a later date if needed?

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Any direction or guidance you might be able to provide is greatly appreciated.

I'll update with any solutions or options for your opinions if I'm able to find any.

I know it's CoM, who is basically Apple propaganda (forever living up to their name), but I've seen these iPhone 17 mock-ups before, and I really think they look like Pixels! Seriously, I have a Pixel 9 Pro that I use for work, and the design of the iPhone 17 is the definition of uninspired. Please, Tim, hire some good industrial designers. It's been a long boring stretch since Ive left.

Digging around in iOS settings under Apple Account, I encountered the Sign In with Apple page listing apps to which authentication is being provided via my Apple account . All app entries are familiar to me except for one with an Apple logo and "Sign In Group Production" as the app identifier.

I found a discussion on Apple's developer forum about Sign In With Apple and app grouping (https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/125087 ), but this isn't mentioned, and I don't use developer features or TestFlight on this device.

Does anyone else have this entry or know what it's used for?

The designer of the iPhone has promised his next artificial intelligence-enabled device will be driven by a sense that “humanity deserves better”, after admitting feeling “responsibility” for some of the negative consequences of modern technology.

Sir Jony Ive said his new partnership with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, would renew his optimism about technology, amid widespread concerns about the impact of smartphones and social media.

In an interview with the Financial Times, London-born Ive declined to give details about the device he is developing with OpenAI, but indicated unease about people’s relationship with some tech products.
