Nahh hahaha, its areally old build. 1.9.0.1. Its been a while since I installed it, and for obvious reasons I havent really been able to update using the update patches :D

Would I still be able to update without breaking my current save, from 1.9 to latest, in stages by doing each patch? Also note Im on linux playing through lutris, so I would need to do everything through the wine prefix

    "No good reason" is the problem, and is the root cause of US people being problematic.

    Im not from the country descending into fascism. Its not perfect here, but its not as bad as the US, though I do what I can for issues I have a say in.

    Stop trying to excuse yourself or "well what have you done" yourself out of responsibility.

    I’m operating in this discussion as though your premise is the sole correct one.

    For me it is, and for you yours is, which I guess if you follow the logic means there is no 'sole correct one' :)

    That being the case 1000 years? Way too short I’d love to live infinitely.

    Wouldn't you get tired? Have you not read/heard stories and fables of characters who got that wish and ended up regretting it, because all they cherish moves on while theyre stuck forever? Also this is kinda my misunderstanding with the concept of heaven - eternity would become boring. And, what if your neighbour in heaven ends up being incredibly annoying and youre stuck next to him for ever. Euugh ;P

    “Mattering” to a small degree does carry some weight in my life. Its why I do the positive things I do and why I work the career I do.

    I see, well thats another difference between us. My matterring or lack thereof has no impact on the things I enjoy and whether I choose to engage in those activities. I dont enjoy programming because I matter, I enjoy it because I simply do, and thats the only reason I do it. Same goes for reading books, or playing games. Whether I matter has no effect on whether I will do things I enjoy or not. Thats the way I see it.

    I recognize on a cosmic scale I don’t matter

    The way I see it, and I touched on this in an earlier comment, we very rarely matter even in a local scale, over even a small time frame of a lifetime or two.

    I just realised that we are discussing something which relies heavily on the concept of "mattering", but we very likely have entirely different understandings of what the word actually means, so Im interested to read what it means for you.

    For me to matter means to have made a change, positive or negative (hopefully former, sadly more common to be the latter), the effects of which will be felt beyond the immediate group of people 'present' or even alive when the action takes place, and to be remembered for it. Alexander the Great is an example of this. Thousands of years after he is gone, his name is remembered, and he certainly shaped the world in one way or another.

    I am also enjoying our discussion, not despite our clear differences in opinion but because of them :)

    And I am also not trying or expect to change your mind.

    Its not that we dont matter at all per se. Its a bit hard to put it into words what Im trying to say. Ill flip the question onto you: because we matter, regardless of how little or much, would you be willing to live for 500 years? What about 1000? Its kind of like were bartering over the number of years its acceptable (usually socially, because as you can see from this thread as soon as someone sais "actually i dont want a long life", others tend to not be able to comprehend why that would be) to want to live. My point is that mattering doesnt matter to me. We think we matter, but most people dont really. Most people dont even know or remember their great grandparents names. Thats just 2 generations removed, and unless they achieved something remotely special, they no longer exist.

    Part of it of course is because of our deeply buried subconscious need to live, or rather avoid death, because ultimately we are animals and most of what we do just boils down to that. Thats the reason food tastes good - because if it didnt release happy chemicals in your brain, you would be less motivated to seek it out, and the species would not survive (same reason sex feels good btw, same reason most things feel good or bad). Once we evolved a modicum of intelligence beyond other creatures, this paralysing terror of the unknown of death spawned religion, early on as proto-religions and in more modern times as the religions we are familiar with today, but the long and short of it is that humans are hardwired to be terrified of death (at least their own) and attempt to prolong their life as much as possible - whether in this life or with some concept of an afterlife. Its the same reason without really understanding the mechanics behind your decision, you feel like you want to live longer, and the same reason I havent yet done a long jump with a short sudden stop. Its very difficult to reason yourself past your animalistic evolutionary instincts that have kept you and literally every single direct ancestor of yours alive, unless you have some kind of illness (of which I believe people who commit suicide suffer - its not really a choice made with a healthy mind, and we should be treating it more like an illness IMO so that we can help these people)

    Thats exactly my point about the 'during'. Ultimately the only reason it has any meaning is because as animals for a large part of our evolutionary history if it didnt, we'd go insane and probably wouldnt reach this point where we can type messages to each other over the internet. For all of time before humanity, and for all of time after we are all gone (let alone any single individual), the blip of our existence ultimately doesnt have meaning except for the short blips themselves.

    And yes, 40s is partly because thats when the living itself starts to become uncomfortable and/or downright painful, but mainly its just an arbitrary age.

    Edit: you said you try to enjoy life as long as possible. Im the same, just sans the "as long as possible" part ;) Its not like I dont like fun or dont have things that bring me enjoyment

    Hello guys. I have island installed and have my "work profile" installed, which contains among others my browser in the island tab. The situation is that I have several PWAs that I dont want to receive notifications for while I am at work as they are distracting and unnecessarily annoying, but I want to receive them normally while not at work.

    I have been trying to figure out how to get it set up so that I can both trigger the actions at scheduled times, or manually through the quick tile I created from macrodroid (my work hours are not really stable/fixed).

    However, when testing with a push notification testing site, regardless what I do I still get the notifications.

    Here is my setup so far:

    Macros:
    Enable Work Profile
    --------------------------
    Triggers:
        Day/Time: 08:00 Mon, Fri
        Quick Tile On/Press

    Actions:
        Action 1:
            Target: Broadcast
            Send Intent: island.intent.action.FREEZE_APP
            Extra 1: package_name = com.brave.browser
        Action 2:
            Display Notification (with a message saying work mode enabled)

    Constraints: None

    Disable Work Profile
    --------------------------
    Triggers:
        Quick Tile Off

    Actions:
        Action 1:
            Target: Broadcast
            Send Intent: island.intent.action.UNFREEZE_APP
            Extra 1: package_name = com.brave.browser
        Action 2:
            Display Notification (with a message saying work mode disabled)

    Constraints:
        Day of the Week: Mon
        Time of Day: 19:00 - 19:01
    ------------------- OR --------------------------
        Day of the Week: Fri
        Time of Day: 22:00 - 22:01

    Some things to note:

    I am using /e/os version 3.0.1-t-20250606498724-official-FP5 Android is version 13

    What am I doing wrong here? Ideally I would like to have as few apps installed as possible to achieve a single task, but as I understand it macrodroid doesnt have the necessary permissions to affect other apps notifications (hence why island is necessary).

    If there is another way which is easier to achieve what I am trying to do I'm all ears, however I do not want to use do not disturb for this purpose because obviously I need to be able to use my phone normally while at work except for those 2-3 apps I dont want to receive notifications for, but there are also situations where I want a full DND experience where I will get nothing coming through, not even alarms (e.g. meetings/classes, etc). Also for those unfamiliar with /e/os, it doesn't currently have the Focus Mode feature so that is also out of the picture.

    Many thanks in advance!

    Hello everyone! I just wrote an extremely simply single-page tool using just HTML and Flask to convert google maps links to Osmand.net links, and I would like to host it somewhere.

    I don't need any fancy bells and whistles, as long as it supports Flask as a backend.

    Im no web developer, so I haven't actually hosted my own page anywhere before. As such, simplicity of use and setup is quite important. For example if it allows me to also buy the domain in the same platform thats good.

    While I use Flask, there is no data being stored. All the flask app does is take the link given by the user, convert it to the osmand.net format, and return it. Super simple!

    I looked on buy-european.net and found Infomaniak Web Hosting. I quite like the fact that they use 100% renewable energy to power their servers according to the page above, but I'm not sure if it would be the best option given how inexperienced with all this I am.

    Would love to hear your suggestions! Thanks

    Edit: Ended up going with hetzner. Site is pretty much set up right now.

    gmaps2osm.de

    It has some screen-reader support (still need to get it tested by visually impaired people), and is also set up so that you can install it as a PWA on your mobile device (add to home screen).

    Here is the github repo: https://github.com/promitheas17j/gmaps2osm

    I would really appreciate any feedback from experienced and not so experienced web developers alike :D

    Hello everyone! I want to write a short script to let me know if there has been more than 3 days since the last full system update whenever I open a terminal (run from .zshrc). Ive got something cobbled together, but sadly it only checks for the last full system update from pacman directly because of the way it looks at the pacman logs.

    My question is, how can I make it so that if EITHER pacman directly or yay runs a full system update, it will update something like a persisitent environment variable with a UNIX timestamp?

    I've also considered writing a hook to run after pacman fully updates the system since yay runs pacman under the hood anyway, but I can't figure out how to make the hook recognise if it was a successful full system update.

    Here is what I have so far:

    #!/bin/zsh

    last_upgrade_date=$(grep -m 1 'full system upgrade' /var/log/pacman.log | cut -d ' ' -f 1 | tr -d '[]')
    last_upgrade_sec=$(date --date="$last_upgrade_date" +%s) # Convert to UNIX timestamp

    last_upgrade_sec=$(date -d "$last_upgrade_date" +%s)
    now_sec=$(date +%s)

    days_since=$(( (now_sec - last_upgrade_sec) / 86400 ))

    if (( days_since > 3 )); then
    	echo "Days since last update: $days_since day(s)" >> /dev/tty
    fi

    # Kernel version check
    running_kernel=$(uname -r)
    installed_kernel=$(pacman -Q linux | awk '{print $2}' | cut -d '-' -f1 | cut -d '.' -f1,2,3)

    running_kernel_base=$(echo "$running_kernel" | cut -d '-' -f1)

    if [[ "$running_kernel_base" != "$installed_kernel" ]];
    then
    	echo "Kernel mismatch detected. Reboot recommended." >> /dev/tty
    fi

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey guys. I just got a Genesis Thor 300 TKL keyboard which doesnt work from my brother. I've got a Glorious GMMK v1 TKL keyboard. Is it possible to desolder the MX Blue switches from the broken Genesis keyboard and use them in the Glorious keyboard which at least to my knowledge is hotswappable?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello once again lovely people.

    I am trying to setup bluetooth on my laptop, and Im using blueman as a frontend. I can see the earbuds, can attempt to connect to them, but I get a dunst notification as follows:

    (A) Bluetooth Pairing request for:
    Fairbuds (20:24:04:08:65:C6)
    Confirm value for authentication:
    xyzpqr

    In the rofi-dunst documentation it mentions symlinking rofi to dmenu which will achieve the same result as calling rofi with the -dmenu flag. I have done that.

    As such in my dunstrc file, I have the default line (which should work after symlinking rofi to dmenu):

    dmenu = /usr/bin/dmenu -p dunst

    However, when I try to connect to the earbuds and click the dunst notification I get the following rofi window:

    (Sorry, for some reason while that window was open I could not take a screenshot)

    Any ideas how I can connect and authenticate to bluetooth devices?

    Thanks in advance!

    EDIT: So I just tried again on my laptop (after a restart of course after so many days) and it works. It gave me a dunst prompt with 2 options - confirm or deny. Selecting confirm connected them automatically. Not sure why it needed a restart though as I was refreshing my bspwm after every change I made last time I tried. Anyway, should be all good now.

    I've been waiting patiently for the FP5 with /e/os to get back in stock (the one with more RAM and storage) and I just got the notification email a couple hours ago that it finally is! However when I tried to check out my cart and enter my address, for some reason my country (Cyprus) was not on the list of available countries. I looked into it a bit further and on the fairphone site they have this:

    Lithium-Ion batteries are bound to shipping restrictions as they are regarded as dangerous goods, so we are unable to transport them via air freight. This limits us from certain island destinations. We also avoid air freight entirely for our European deliveries to reduce our carbon impact.

    https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/17121765976849-Shipping-Costs

    Ok, it might be the case and their hands are tied and they cant do anything about it. But looking on Cyprus' postal service site they have a section dedicated to prohibited items which is as follows:

    Cyprus Post does not undertake the handling and transportation of items contained in the UPU List of Prohibited Items valid at the time, such as: radioactive materials, infectious substances, sensitive biological substances, explosives, flammable substances, corrosive material, narcotics, compressed gas and any other article whose transportation is prohibited by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Cyprus Post has the right to check the item using any method or means, including the opening of the package in order to prevent the transportation of prohibited goods.

    Items containing lithium batteries cannot be accepted for dispatch using the traditional postal services. They can be sent using the Courier service QuickPost which is provided in cooperation with DHL Cyprus Ltd.

    You should also note that every destination country has its own rules regarding the importation of goods. If in doubt, please ask the Service Agent at the Post Office.

    https://www.cypruspost.post/en/faq-prohibited-items

    That in addition to me having ordered mobile phones from abroad into here before, makes me think there is something else going on that is preventing fairphone from shipping to Cyprus.

    I must admit I'm quite annoyed, because we are a member of the European Union and it feels a bit exclusionary to not get the same benefits other countries get.

    That being said, does anyone know the true reason for this restriction? Is it actually a mistake on FPs side, or some weird legislation in Cyprus?

    This post is half rant, half genuinely wanting to find out what the issue is, thanks for reading this far :)

    I've been checking the page linked above every day hoping the bigger spec version of the FP5 (more ram+storage) with /e/os preinstalled will be back in stock, but for the past month or month and a half its remained out of stock.

    I would like to make the switch as soon as possible, but I'm not sure when it will be back in stock. Just so I have a complete and well-informed picture of my options, would it be possible to have a tl;dr of the comparison between the preinstalled version and the stock version where I put /e/os on it myself? I'm talking about stuff like warranty voiding, issues with the install process, etc...

    Thanks in advance!

    p.s. Anyone have any idea when it will be back in stock? :p

    inb4 why youtube link when piped exists I have been struggling to find a piped instance that works recently. The instances I've tried are either Bad Gateways, dont exist at all anymore, or their search box just doesnt work (I type something in and hit enter/click the search button and just nothing happens)

    Hey everyone, glad I found a Fairphone community on here!

    My current device's screen is broken (not unusable, but does cause problems and I was planning on switching anyway) and I want to get the FP5 with /e/os preinstalled (dont want to bother with doing it myself, I know thats an option). Im just wondering how long I can expect to wait for it to be back in stock. Its been listed as unavailable on their store for a while now.

    If anyone knows from past experience generally how often they restock them that would be amazing to let me know!

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey guys, up to a few days ago it was working fine, i.e. it wouldn't go to sleep ever. But probably some update or something else changed and now after 13 minutes my pc goes to sleep.

    I read the power management/suspend page in the arch wiki, and now have the following:

    # /etc/systemd/sleep.conf
    [Sleep]
    AllowSuspend=no
    AllowHibernation=no
    AllowSuspendThenHibernate=no
    AllowHybridSleep=no

    as well as:

    # /etc/systemd/logind.conf
    [Login]
    HandleSuspendKey=suspend
    IdleAction=ignore
    IdleActionSec=0

    (that last one I dont remember where I got it from)

    I tried masking systemd targets, but after waiting without touching anything it still went to sleep after 12-13 minutes.

    $ systemctl mask sleep.target suspend.target hibernate.target hybrid-sleep.target

    Notice in the command below I have xfce4-power-manager (though it looks different than on my laptop) but I dont see it in control of sleep itself, but rather upower and NetworkManager control sleep.

    $ systemd-inhibit
    WHO UID USER PID COMM WHAT WHY MODE
    NetworkManager 0 root 734 NetworkManager sleep NetworkManager needs to turn off networks delay
    UPower 0 root 1149 upowerd sleep Pause device polling delay
    xfce4-power-manager 1000 user 1053 xfce4-power-man handle-power-key:handle-suspend-key:handle-hibernate-key:handle-lid-switch xfce4-power-manager handles these events  block

    3 inhibitors listed.

    I looked at the manual for upower as well as its wiki page but couldn't see anything about enabling/disabling/handling suspends in any way and after further reading it seems it doesn't directly handle suspends/hibernates, just informs stuff like systemd about power levels and such.

    As for NetworkManager, does it really have the ability to force a suspend?

    It gets really annoying when trying to watch a movie, or when I'm afk in a game but still want to keep an eye on it.

    Can anyone please help me? Thanks in advance!

    System info: Kernel: 6.12.10-arch1-1 DE/WM: bspwm

    Edit: Checked both BIOS settings (Couldn't find anything related to power saving) and the settings for the monitors themselves (no power saving features there either). How would I check to see if it is indeed just the monitors going to sleep, and by extension how would I fix it?
